Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum
Hi there.
My dog has something that's growing underneath is paw and coming out his pad. Any ideas on how I can remedy this? The vet thinks it's a cyst but didn't provide too much info on how to treat it except to use the elizabeth cone to prevent him from licking and to wear a bootie when going out to prevent the salt from making it worse.
Any help/ advice would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

Looks like maybe a papillomavirus lump? If that's what it is, they're harmless and there isn't much the vet can do is either hope it falls off or remove it (removal would require general anesthesia and surgery).
Keep it clean and dry and keep your pup from licking it and watch it for now.
It sounds like it might be a keratinized cutaneous cyst. They're pretty common in dogs, especially on the paws. Christine's Camus had one, hopefully she will respond.
Its difficult to tell from the photo, could be a keratinized cutaneous cyst as Karen suggested or a papillomavirus lump as J suggested. From my experience it is important to keep the paw covered and not allow any licking, which will only create other problems. Camus has a cutaneous horn (keratinized cutaneous cyst) in one of his paw pads, that created a stress point that split the pad. The horn was cut down to prevent further injury to the pad and I kept his paw covered with a sock indoors and a bootie outdoors. Surgery was not recommended, but I do keep an eye on it and the vet trims it when needed.
Thanks guys for replying and your support. I've done exactly that and am soaking his paw a couple osterf times in Epson salt and got muttlik booties for walks outside. Also I'm using caster oil with warm water and drying paw afterwards. Wonder how he got this?
I wanted to thank everyone that provided their input for the issue Omie was experiencing. He is now back to normal and the cyst has gone away.
thanks again.
That is good news.
Great news, it sure cleared up quickly.
