Hello all...:)

I was wondering if someone has a recommendation on a good baby/pet gate that doesn't cost an arm and a leg (like over 60 bucks)? Winston is to the point where we want to start gating him in the room with us instead of tethering and possibly leaving him gated in the kitchen when we are gone instead of being in his crate (even though I'm terrified at that thought right now lol)

We had previously bought one of those wooden pressure mounted baby gates but that thing was awful so we returned it. It was either too loose to stand up between the walls or the next hook was too tight to reach. I am thinking a plastic one might work better but I figure I'd ask everyone what they are using and where they got it! It doesn't need to be anything too fancy, I don't care if it swings open or if we have to climb over, it just needs to be easy to use and fairly tall so he can't jump over.

Attached is a pic of the little devil after a doodle romp yesterday!

If he is going to be a big boy you may want a taller gate. This one is a top rated on with great reviews and it is right at your $60 budget.

I bought this ( http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003VNKLIY/ref=oh_details_o00_s00_... )play yard a few weeks ago because I bring my doodle, Walter, to work with me each day. I have an l-shaped desk and needed something to keep him contained. I liked this play yard becuase it can be used as a traditional play yard, or as a a long extended gate for a larger space.

I also have this ( http://www.amazon.com/Etna-Products-4522-Wooden-Gate/dp/B00557SADC/... ) gate. I got it ridiculously cheap on Groupon one day. It's not tall at all, and if you're dog doesn't respect "boundaries" he might be tempted to jump over it. I used it as a boundary to keep my pup out of my bedroom, which is the only room with carpet in my home. It keeps my 25 lb 5 month old doodle out and my 90 pound 3 year old golden out.

Love my baby gate. Have Spud in the kitchen right now after his bath.  We bought a First Years gate at Target 3 years ago and it was just about $69.00 if I remember correctly.

We mounted it 6 inches off the floor so our cats could crawl through. This also gave it some height.   Seriously though, my dog can jump that gate with ease and he has on very rare instances.  Let's just say, he has an understanding that the gate means he has to stay out.

So try Target or Amazon.

We bought the one that attaches to the wall so you are not constantly putting it up and down.  No regrets at all.

Here is the one we have and it is $59.00 on Amazon.

Spud is now 62lbs.

Oh what a cutie!

Well here's a topic I have knowledge on! lol  We have three Bindaboo gates in our house.  We tried several before finding these treasures.  The down side, I think they are more pricey but the swing gate feature is wonderful especially for my elderly mom, she can walk through and the gate closes and locks behind her plus it makes entering and exiting the room really easy if it's a high traffic room. When I am home I prop the gate open so they still have access to the backyard and when I am gone the gate gets closed. I have the shorter version on the stairs and the extra tall in the kitchen and entry way (which is wider 44" I believe).  They are strong, sturdy and very functional.

My Sassparilla is 65# and struggles with separation anxiety so taking down a gate was easy when she heard me pull into the driveway.  Only once has one of these been knocked over but it had two weeks with three dogs (my two and my sisters very large golden) jumping on/into it.  You can also screw them into the walls for a stronger grip.  If you'll have a big dog the extra tall is a must, as it is now my girl springs up above the extra tall, if she ever figures out a forward motion I'm doomed cuz she'll just Tigger bounce right over it.

My other sister purchased one of these (about 6 mths ago) for her three dogs and loves it - they screwed theirs into the wall (they have two very tall setters and one medium sized mutt).

We all picked up ours on Amazon http://www.amazon.com/s/?ie=UTF8&keywords=bindaboo+pet+gate&...  My first one in the entry hall broken at the door hinge after about 6 months and they replaced it immediately - no questions - which was wonderful.

Good luck and enjoy!

I recently got two cheep wooden gates from big lots...$10 each. They are pretty short - around 3 feet so they may be a little short for your guy.

Thanks everyone for the responses! It sounds like metal gates are the way to go.. we are going to try one more place- Home Depot- and if no luck there I'll be getting one off Amazon!

I got mine at petsmart...it has a door too, so I just leave it up all the time!
