Invisible Fence vs Dog Watch Fence

Hi All - I have had the sales pitch for both types of hidden fences. Both of course have pros & cons. Can anyone offer advice on which company I should go with?

They seem to be about the same price for the options I am considering. I have read some negative views of Invisible Fence online (battery cost & warranty issues)

I have a e-fence that I installed with a friend of mine, he did the electric and digging I did the rest.  Both my doodles were trained and I followed the instructions exactly.  My system gives a beep for the 1st warning, vibrate for the 2nd warning then the correction.  I have also tried this on myself and it does not hurt... it just feels strange.    I have a physical fence in my yard but got the e-fence to keep the doodles out of my pond and garden and they do extremely well with it.  The key to success I believe is the training!!!

They want you to get on a battery pack program to get a discount on the battery. It's a better deal and the batteries last a long time. We seem to get a new pack of batteries way before they are needed. I love our Invisible Fence. I have a small dog and we use the rubber stopper or tips on the collar so he only gets a beep with no other reinforcement. He won't even go near the parameters. Our doodle is bigger and stronger and his had to be at full strength to train. It works like a charm and he never goes near the parameters either.

Invisible Fence has been wonderful for us.  I have a chihuahua and mini dood and both respect the boundaries - have had it since June and they both have not attempted to go near the edges since probably JUNE :)

I just had a Dog Watch fence installed today.  I investigated all the companies out there and narrowed my choice down to Invisible Fence and Dog Watch.  I ended up going with Dog Watch because I liked the person who owns the company and felt like I would get more personal service from him than from Invisible Fence.  As far as the equipment I think they are both fine.  So I ended up choosing based on the people involved.  Good luck!

WE were like ,what to do? Then we realized a FENCE will keep other animals out. We have lots of deer roaming the neighborhood and I know Shea would not stop if he was buzzed. Last summer I was walking my three Doodles and out of the yard that had the invisable fence three dogs came at us. The owner had the buzzer in her hand zapping them but they did not stop. After my"heart attack" I went home and told my husband,I"m glad I put in the regular chain link fence.I think thats the way to go with Doodles.My daughter has underground fencing and her labs have run thru it. She uses two collars on each lab.

I am not allowed a fence in our development. I hope that I don't have these issues but I really don't have a choice. He will be supervised while he is outside always. We have dogs, deer and geese in our area and I would not trust him to not chase them as soon as he gets a little older and more confident. I will have to do my best with what I have. 

Hopefully we will be moving in less than 2 years and I will chose a house with a fence since that is the best option.

Unfortunately, we didn't really have a choice.  Our choice ended up being between only taking Charlie out on a leash or getting an invisible fence.  I can't imagine myself letting him out without supervision because of the things you have stated.  Sometimes you have to make the best of the situation you are dealt.

We have the Invisible Fence Brand Fence and are very pleased. We have great customer service with our local dealer and the trainers were fantastic. I think the failure rate is higher among those who install the "do it yourself" kind, although I know that isn't true for all.  As others have stated, training is the key element to success and the trainers (at least the ones we had) really helped make that happen. They came out at least 3 times for hour long training sessions.  Hudson and Lily both have a high prey drive, and they don't even go near the boundries even when chasing rabbits and squirrels.  I understand the argument that it doesn't keep other animals out of your yard, but for people who can't have a fence, it can be a successful option if the owner is diligent about training.

We have the Invisible Fence.  We originally installed it for our lab (now gone, sweet girl) around the periphery of our property and the lab would have free rein, making her rounds up our hill and all around.  We watch Quincy much more carefully.  he has been trained since about 4 1/2 months and now at 9 months is allowed to go up the hill, but we do keep an eye.  I admire folks that take their dogs for walks every time the dog needs to relieve themselves-we are spoiled as we just open the door, turn on the flood lights and wait inside in the warm.  Used appropriately, it is a great luxury.

We got the PetSafe invisible fence for our pup when she was 4 months old. Theydo only recommend it for pups 6-12 months old, but we thought we would try it. We wanted to get it installed and her used to the boundary before the snow came. We had it on the lowest setting when we were training her and she learnt her boundaries within a 1 week. It works great. It was easy to install, we did it ourselves. I am really happy with it.
