Shelley - this could be our chance to finally meet up!!!

Would you be willing to try out Blydenburgh Dog Park ?  I have not been there, but it looks nice. any other suggestions?  We have gone to Caumusett with our pup-which is ok.

Blydenburgh is at Veterans Hwy, Hauppauge, NY 11788 - Google map

This park is located within 627-acre Blydenburgh County Park in the southern section of the park. The 1.8-acre dog park includes both an open field and woods, a small dog area and a large dog area, water fountains for each area, doubled-gated entries, and plenty of benches and waste bag dispensers.

This is a beautiful facility for dog lovers, with lots of shade provided in both the large and small dog areas. The Suffolk County Parks Department did a great job constructing this park and a lot of people have worked hard to get it open. Please don't bring dogs that have aggression issues as the dog park is definitely not the place to work on them! Many thanks to Legislator John Kennedy, the Suffolk County Parks Department, and all the members of LI-DOG who worked to get this park built. Enjoy the park with your dogs but please pick up after your them and please take good care of the park.

There is an active group at Blydenburgh called "The Friends of Blydenburgh Dog Park". Their goal is to create a sense of community among the dog owners there, and also to promote harmony and safety for all who use the park. To find out more go to the Blydenburgh Dog Park website.

Directions: The entrance to the park is on Veterans Memorial Highway, opposite the H. Lee Dennison Building. Once you enter the park go past the Parks Police booth and follow the sign pointing to the activity field on which the dog park is located.

I have been several times. Daisy is very passive and she is kind of intimidated by so many dogs. However- it is beautiful and a great place to take a doodle swimming, so we could definitely meet there and then walk them down to the water. They raised the prices a lot last year- it used to be $2 to get in with a green key on the weekends and now it's $5. I'm ok with paying that a few times/year if you guys want to meet up there- let me know.

there are other options- http://www.suffolkcountyny.gov/Departments/Parks/Parks/ArthurKunzCo...

Arthur Kunz Park is beautiful and we hike there and there is also a dog friendly beach in Northport off of Woodbine- but it's not fenced in.

Looking forward to meeting some other doodle owners and their dogs!

:)

Stephanie - What is a green key?

I don't really like Caumuset because of the volume of dogs-so your other suggestions would be fine with me-I guess we should try for a date in April ?  Arthur Kunz looks lovely or the beach at Northport would be fun, too.

Saturday or Sundays?  I prefer Sunday late morning, but am versatile.  right now we have a tricks class saturday at 8:30- but it is only for another 5 weeks.

A green key is the pass you pay for to get in to most Suffolk County Parks. It is $20 for two years- I think mine just expired and I never used it much.

Sundays late mornings are perfect for me, so let me know a date that works for you...oh- and sorry for the confusion, I was describing my visits to Blydenburgh, not Caumuset. I've never been to Caumuset. It's Blydenburgh that you need the green key for- but only at certain times of year. Blydenburgh usually has a ton of dogs in it too...

what is tricks class? That sounds fun!

Tricks class is given at  http://www.happydogbehavior.com/home.html where we did puppy kindergarten and Family dog classes.  She is a great trainer and this is a fun class where Quincy is learning a few dog tricks like play dead, sit pretty, play a piano and treat on the nose.  takes patience but should be worth it and he is learning to listen the whole time.

I would like to try a smaller park-since you have been to others, please pick!  I guess if we want to try a Doodle Romp with lots of dogs we would need to give some notice?  An April date?  Otherwise we can exchange phone numbers for a last minute for our two.  I will message you with friend request.

How is Sunday, April 7th? It's Daisy's 4th birthday!

I'll suggest two things- 1- Because the other parks I take her to are not fenced in, we could meet at Blydenburgh early-ish and avoid the crowds. My favorite thing to do with her there is to go swimming (does Quincy swim?) and/or go to the playground and play fetch because there are a lot fewer dogs there. I don't think you need a green key to get in until the summer but I can look into this.

or 2- meet up in Northport village and keep them on leash. If you're up to it/have time, we could drive over to the dog-friendly park where they could swim- but it's not fenced in.

Let me know your thoughts. Should be fun!

Stephanie

we are always up for a play date..  we have a bunch of doodles we hang out with here in Port Washington... let me know if a group is set up around here or if anyone is interested in joining one of our plays.

I am meeting Stephanie (post above) on Sunday 4/14/13 in Blydenburg- it's a little far for you, but we would love to meet!  Keep me posted on any other romps on LI, we are in Huntington.
