The girls are up for their annual microchip registry renewal. HomeAgain is charging $17.99 per doodle. Anyone know of a good registry that either is free or costs less?
There are mixed reviews about ResQ chips and the company's record keeping of the pets info.

Coming late to this discussion. F, thanks for calling Avid. Good to know.
This discussion made me go back and look at JD's chip registration peperwork, and I'm glad I did. Some of the contact phone numbers had changed in the 6 years since then, so I called Avid's 800 number.
They could not have been nicer. The gentleman I spoke with was patient and helpful, and there was no charge at all for changing the phone numbers. The $6 charge would only apply if I changed my address, or the other contact info like the vet's name and address.
He also told me that if JD was found by the police, animal control, a veterinary office or hospital, a shelter, etc., they would give them my contact information as well as contacting me themselves. The only time they do not give out your info is if a private party found him and called them. In that case, they would get that person's contact information and call me. So I feel pretty good about it, although of course I hope never to need to test it out. He did tell me that if your dog is ever missing, to contact them immediately.
And as soon as I got off the phone with Avid and came here to my computer to post this reply, there was an email with a confirmation of the updated registration info. Everything was perfect, and it couldn;t have been 60 seconds after I hung up the phone.
I am very satsified with Avid.
this reminds me, I haven't changed Sophie's microchip info since I moved!
Thanks for the reminder Adrianne!
Yup, just what they told me about contacting people Karen. I think they are reputable unlike some companies.
I to have Avid.I only paid once and I have had my rescue Aja for two years.Nothing was written about any renewal when I sent her money in..I hope she is still registered.I have never been sent any notice.
I got this email today...

Ollie has Avid. After I adopted him, I registered the chip in my name but it must not have been directly what Avid because I recently called them to change my address after I moved and i wasn't in their system. I went back and check and it was some online database. It turns out that when the chip gets scanned it only says the company name and chip number. The vet or shelter then has to call that company (in this case Avid) and find out who the dog belongs to. If you aren't registered with the actual company then they have no way to find you. The only way those online databases work is if you enter the chip number online but the chip number wouldn't be known unless you have it on the collar. I suppose you could get the dog scanned at the vet/shelter and then double check online but how many people finding a lost dog would go through all that?
