Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

Hi Everyone,
I wasn't sure where to post this and have been searching since Monday if there is anything like this on DK and google but can't seem to find anything. I'm really not sure if its a grooming issue, health issue, training, and can't seem to quite place my finger on what it is.

Our mobile groomer came on Saturday and Zoe and Bender got groomed. Bender had to get shaved because his fur was really matted at the roots. I was so sad because I spend so much time brushing him and yet he was matted. Well he came out beautiful but his body fur is reallllllly short and shorter than I have ever imagined or ever seen on another doodle. I just figured his mats were pretty bad and that's what the groomer had to do.

Anyways, he's been having a weird flinch. His flinch is towards his rear end almost like he's getting bit on his behind and legs. At first DH and I thought it was fleas so we put advantix on him right away. He's still doing this and that was Saturday. Zoe isn't itchy and seems fine. Bender only does this while eating and random times but not often. Always during eating tho. DH said he's probably sensitive because he's not used to not having fur.

Does anyone know why he's doing this or have experienced something like this? It's really freaking me out :(

I've never heard of this before. Is it possible air is blowing on him when he's eating? Is his bowl near a fan or vent?

He eats in the kitchen and the door is usually closed and the ceiling fan is rarely on. He knocked over his bowl today doing this so I have a video clip of him eating and flinching but i don't know how to post a video to a discussion

Joanna, Have you checked his bottom for razor burn, if he is cut really close he could be having some irritation in that area? I have seen Quincy do this if I have clipped that area too close.

I've checked his fur multiple times and do not see any razor burns under his fur. I've run and hands all over his body and he doesn't react to that either

Shea had been shaved tooo close to his bottom. He scooted and I refered to it as his new trick, but it was razor burn. It took about a week to heal.If the groomer had to cut really short, that could be the problem.Good luck. You can always use medical spray.

Hmmm ok since you and Donna both have experienced this maybe he has razor burns but not visible

I didn't see any razor burns on Quincy either and he only did it for a couple of days and I haven't clipped him that close again and he hasn't repeated that behavior. He wasn't actually clipped to the skin close but obviously closer than was comfortable.

Oh that's good to know that's all it is! :) thanks ladies
I just get so worried about these guys!
Should I give him an oatmeal bath or something?

Joanna, I think aloe would be soothing if you have it. I was going to suggest petroleum jelly but you really don't want greasy stains anywhere he sits. I think I used a tiny bit of Polysporin and it went away in a couple of days.

thanks Donna :)

I have no idea, but just wanted to say I hope he stops flinching soon. Razor burns sound logical to me!! Good luck!
