So the week before last, we had Teddy and Molly groomed and they needed shaved down as they were matted bad... my bad I know.... but then I was out of town for a week taking care of my dad and today I noticed this on Teddy's ears and wondered what it might be? He's going to the vet tomorrow for a booster so I'm gonna have him looked at anyways but wondered if you could help me out beforehand.

Ouchie!  I'm sorry I dont know what that is but kind of looks like a sore or some kind.

I don't know what it is , but I am glad you are going to the Vet tomorrow.  Will keep good thoughts it is just a cut of some sort.  Hope it is not too painful...

Is the dark color around whatever it is dried blood? or is the hair is just darker?

Could they have been playing rough and could that be a love bite? I know that when ours play rough, someone is bound to have a scratch or a nip.

Glad that the vet will have a chance to check it out.

that is what I was going to suggest.  I sometimes find small scabby sections on one of my guys when I do a good brushing.  It is usually just from them playing and scratching or nipping each other.  Let us know what your vet says.

It is hard to tell from a distance.  It kind of looks like a histiocytoma.  A benign tumor, often on the ear, common in pups under two years of age.  It usually spontaneously goes away.  Do a google and look at the images and see if that is what it looks like.

what did the vet have to say?

OUCH...Do you live where it is warm, could it be a tick??????

The vet said that it could be one of 2 things, either them playing too rough, or him shaking his head and his ears hit the bars of his crate and burst blood vessels. I'm to put first aid cream on it twice a day for a week or 2 and if it doesn't heal, then come back and we will take a second look. I appreciate all your guys advice. I've never seen this type of thing before.

Well at least it doesn't sound too bad. Was it like a blister in the middle?

If it WAS head shaking, at least he didn't get a hematoma.  So glad it was something you can treat topically.
