I have a almost 3 month old goldendoodle and he is 8.6 lbs. could he be a mini? The breeder said he came from the standard liter but she also had a mini liter. My husband didnt know what one he picked! But like I said, the breeder said he was a standard just a medium sized one. How big will he get?

Bender was tiny when he was 3 months old.  Now he is 45-50 lbs.  I thought he would be smaller

Luke's mom was a 36 lb golden retriever and his dad was a standard poodle 45 lbs. the breeder said that his mom's parents were both 55-60 lbs and she was just small. Therefore, the breeder soda that he could take after his non's lineage. The breeder also said that within a liter of goldendoodles, there is small, medium and large puppies. Luke was a small/medium. But, he wasn't the runt. I just hope he stays small like 30-35 lbs!

Oh! so you want him to be small?  I'm not sure if boy mini's are larger than girls but my Zoe is 25 lbs.

Benders parents were similar weights to Luke's parents but I really didn't keep an accurate record of his weight so I'm really not sure how much he weighed at 3 months.  I thought he would be 35-40 lbs full grown but he kept growing LOL

Yes, he was a complete surprise from my sweet husband! The breeder had Mini's and standards. My husband said they were a ton of puppies -dif sizes.,but the breeder said he was from the standard liter. But, he is tiny! He's all fluffy hair! A friend of mine has a doodle and he's 4 months and weighs 45 lbs! His legs are alot longer and his paws are HUGE!

that is SO sweet of your husband!!!

I have a mini. She is 4 months old and 10 lbs. It sounds like you could, in fact, have a mini on your hands... or maybe just a late bloomer ;)

If he is a late bloomer, will he just get a huge growth spurt?

Puppies usually hit their biggest growth spurts between 4-6 months so if he's a late bloomer he may hit a pretty solid growth spurt near the end of the average. The general rule of thumb is to take their weight at 16 weeks x 2 and then add 5.. so it would make sense that your vet said they're usually off by about 5 pounds :)

By the sounds of things, your little guy will probably end up around 25-27 pounds (just my rough guess assuming that he hits the 10lb mark at 16 wks... can't wait to see how far off I am. HA!)

Thank you for your reply! We absolutely love Luke! I've always had Akitas growing up so I have no idea about other dogs, especially doodles! Luke will be 16 weeks in a few weeks! I'm guessing he'll be about 10 lbs then since he's 8.6 now. That's crazy that he was from the standard liter and yet, so small! All his siblings were 2x the size. The breeder did say that there are small, medium and large within the liter. We'll see! I'll keep you posted!

that is about how big Cubbie was at 4 months.  He is now about 25lbs at 4 years old

Yay! There's hope that he'll be a little guy! That's what I was hoping for. He is te sweetest, cutest thing ever! He will be 3 months in about 10 days. And at this rate, he has only gained 2.4 lbs in a 4 weeks! So, hopefully he'll stay a mini. Can there be a mini sized doodle from a standard liter?

My two were both bigger at that age. Luca is a large medium and Calla is a small standard.
