Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

Hi!  We are doing lots of research in the doodle world and since information is limited, I was hoping I could get some information from members about either airedoodles or shepadoodles.  We are considering both of these breeds, leaning towards airedoodle.  I would love to hear from anyone who has experience with either.  I know that this site is mainly for labradoodles and goldendoodles...hoping no one minds me asking about something different. :)

Thank you!

I would imagine in some Shepadoodles, you have the strength of the poodle with the speed of the shepherd, too. That's the thing about genetics, which characteristics any particular offpring gets from each parent is random, just like in humans. Otherwise, all full siblings of every species would be identical to each other, and have identical personalities. But we know that brothers and sisters from the same two parents can look very different and be very different, and the same is true of dogs.

Yep, totally agree.

Hi David,

Your dog is beautiful.  I wish you had more pictures posted on your page.  I googled Shepadoodles but saw that they all look very different.  I have never heard of a Shepadoodle before this discussion and was just curious why you chose one.  You say on your profile that you always had GSD so I'm assuming it is because you love the breed so much.  Is there a trait that Shepadoodles have that is favorable?  I really am just curious and apologize if I seem too pushy.

My cream dog is an f1b Labradoodle and he too is fast but also strong :)

It appears that David was hoping for a GSD that didn't shed, judging by his comment in a recent discussion:

I have a F1 Shepadoodle and he sheds, he's the worse shedder I have ever known - I too was told he wouldn't shed, and was the main reason we got him because of mild reaction to pet hairs by one of our children.

These breeders who tell us doodles are hypoallergenic are just out to make money and that's it - it's annoying to say the least because not only are they messing with potential human health problems, they are placing puppies in homes where the dog will be unsuitable, and that's not responsible.

David, I couldn't agree more with your comments that "These breeders who tell us doodles are hypoallergenic are just out to make money...they are placing puppies in homes where the dog will be unsuitable, and that's not responsible."

Exactly.

I totally agree to this comment too!  Very well said!

Yes he's shedding his puppy coat and it's spring here in the UK.  I've told this will slow down when summer is here and he's over 12 months old.  It was a shock initially that's why I posted that he sheds in my first post on this thread. I was not looking for a non-shedding GSD, that's incorrect, as Shepadoodles look nothing like GSD's and I knew this before I bought him through the limited pictures on the net. I was looking for what I have, an intelligent, strong, fast loving loyal dog, but with non shedding as I was sold - I'm guilty of nothing here :)  OK he sheds, but I'm on top of it and it will reduce, in fact it has started to already with a daily groom.

Imagine a big fluffy teddy bear that is not only intelligent, but acts as daft as a brush the next minute.  His personality is huge.  He already reads my thoughts and can predict my next move.  He is so lovable, everyone loves him, which is really nice after you've had German Shepherds in the past and you come across people who are ignorant of the breed and some would cross over with their dog. :(  He's fitted right in with us, yes he can try it on sometimes but he's a teenager and is still growing mentally and responds well to verbal correction. He's one big kid and we couldn't imagine being without him.  We have already a handful of people who want a puppy if he Sires any as he's totally original around here.

its so wonderful that you love your dog so much!

I too have a Shepadoodle. I love both breeds so I was very excited when I I saw these pups advertised!
Jasper is 3 years old now and is a wonderful dog - so incredibly intelligent that he seems to think more human like than dog like... He's about 75 lbs, very tall but not very beefy. His coat is incredibly scruffy (rather wolfhound like) but he has loads of character...people always stop me and comment about him when I'm out walking. He sheds more than any dog I've ever owned, big tumbleweeds that are constantly scattered around my hardwood floors! Oh well...
He's SO laid back... I use him as a Therapy Dog and we go into long term care homes to visit the elderly.
I love him to pieces!!! :)
Also, after reading a lot do these posts... I think it's pretty narrow minded to think that crossing a Poodle with anything other than a Retriever or Lab is wrong. Why? There are a lot of nice breeds and crossing a poodle with them often just adds some extra "pizazz" and intelligence. Plus a more a shaggier coat, if you're in to that.
I have met many Labradoodles (no offence to you that own them) and I would much prefer my Shepadoodle any day. The few I met were out of control hyper....
I have owned many dogs throughout my life and Jasper by far has had the best personality... I get compliments on him daily when we are out walking. When he was evaluated to be a therapy dog the evaluator approached me after and said he was her favourite....
So my point is...there are other wonderful doodle mixes out there.... And they all have the potential to be awesome dogs, everyone has their own preference and this should be respected.

Brand new to this site and to my handsome shepadoodle.  He's 8 weeks, 4 days old.  We picked him up yesterday and his beard is RIGHTEOUS, compared to when we met him several weeks ago.  He's not as curly as two of his sibilings, but he had blue eyes that won us over.   They have since gone green, but he's still special to us.  Sire and dam are farm dogs.  Dad a neighboring Shepherd and Mom a full bred black standard poodle.  She's very beautifully curled.  I had hoped he would get some curl, but so far, just a lot of wirey fluff.  He's a keeper though...seems very smart.  Excited to be here to learn more about the breed and our handsome boy.
