My habit is coffee and checking the computer first thing in the morning. I give Meg a bite of yogurt then go sit down. She knows I keep a small brush by the computer, she is such a heavy shedder that we keep them everywhere and try not to miss an opportunity. Meg's habit is to eat her yogurt and then come and interrupt my private morning time. I generally let her come up and lay across my lap...she is a good size dog so imagine hind feet on floor, paws in my lap and head looking me straight in the eyes. Then she lays her belly across my lap and if I am using the mouse her head goes straight down on that hand so it can't move. I generally pick up the brush and spend some time grooming at that point.
This morning I was a bit distracted as I was looking up 'how to' videos for a messenger bag my granddaughter wants me to help her with today. Apparently Meg thought I was interrupting HER time at that point, she pulled back and then kept shoving her nose into my chest until I started brushing again, at which point she lays down calmly...can we just say spoiled rotten?
Does your dog push you around as well?

We call these Annie's "Human Tricks". We have taught Annie many tricks, but she has taught us tricks too. Yes, we have the 'lap time' where the front paws come into my lap for a pet, and if she's in my lap and I'm not petting her, I might get a digging on my leg until I comply. She also 'moves' my legs with her paw when I am in her way, and she wants to get through. She will stare at the couch and then paw my leg until I look at her, then she looks at the couch like "Well... a little help?" if her ball or toy gets lost under the couch. She is quite the bossy little lady, but I find it adorable and endearing. I see it as her 'communication style'. Haha, how else is she supposed to tell me what she wants? LOL
Meg does the exact same thing at the couch, if we ignore she ends up sitting up with both front paws up waiting for her invitation to 'come up'.
I was looking through my phone and found this video of Annie in one of her more demanding moments. She really has me wrapped around her finger... It's really only the first 15 seconds or so. The rest of the video is me asking her "are you done?"
LOL, it takes strength of character not to give in to that face!
haha, you hear how firm my "no" is - she is probably thinking, "Come on lady, your "no" needs some work if you expect me to believe that you really mean 'no' "...
Annie has a precious face. How could you ever get mad at that sweet look? LOL The video made me laugh. You are right - I know it doesn't take long for a dog to wrap you around its finger.
Gavin is never bossy in the sense that he is forceful with his body, but he does let his eyes do the talking. He can guilt you into just about anything by being across the room and staring at you. It usually means that he wants you to take out his squeaky ball and play with him. He sits very nicely or lies down and just looks at you. He will do this for a very long time unless you either grab the ball, redirect him, or he falls asleep.
Dogs know how to give the sorrowful eye look and make you feel guilty. They are very smart. Its hard to resist a sad puppy dog face. :)
He would if he could, lol.
But he's learned that he can't. Otherwise, I would have a soggy, slimy ball repeatedly being dropped in my lap every single time I sat down, and a soggy, slimy ball being pushed against my leg or my hand the rest of the time. So JD has learned that I am in charge of scheduling around here. :-)
Luna is pretty polite with her demands most of the time - she whines quietly and sometimes puts a paw or a nose gently on a lap or arm. With toys she just slams them on the floor repeatedly but she gives up pretty quickly (after about 5 minutes).
The only thing we really have to work on is she gets sort of jealous when I give DH a big hug and tries to physically separate us... I've been trying to get him to just ignore her but he tends to want to touch her when she jumps up.
Myla gets jealous too! If we are hugging, she will sit beside us and bark and bark - which she never does at other times. The only time she barks in the house is if someone knocks on the door or when she needs to go potty, she will bark once by the back door to be let outside. We are ignoring her when she does this but it is hard to hug with a barking dog beside you LOL.
