Does anyone have experience using ACV as a flea/tick preventative? How did it work?

That discussion has ended up giving us lots of laughs, so it is all good :)

Adina, John said to tell you I haven't had one flea since I have been doing the nightly vinegar neck wraps :) LOL

I would not even dream of trying ACV to protect my dog from ticks or fleas. There is nothing about vinegar that would keep a flea or tick from biting your dog, despite what you read on "natural remedies" websites. That's pure hokum. There is not one single shred of fact-based evidence that any kind of vinegar can do anything at all to protect your dog from fleas or ticks. (or any other parasite or illness.)  It's just vinegar, and it's kind of a running joke around here.

Tick-borne illnesses can be very serious, some can be incurable, and some can be fatal. Fleas can also cause all kinds of serious health issues, life-long skin issues and allergies, not to mention your home can become infested and it's a nightmare. Personally, I wouldn't take a chance of using anything that has not been clinically proven to be effective.

Good article on this old "folk remedy". Apparently there was some doctor in the 1950s who started all this ACV is a cure for everything nonsense.

Actually, if you google "Apple cider vinegar myths", you get quite a bit of info, lol.

What do you use as a flea/tick preventative? Frontline? Advantix?

Ticks are not a huge problem where we live. I don't use a product that kills both. I use Advantage. I have looked at the Natural Living Doodles group to see if there was something I could try, but in our area fleas are definitely a big problem and I'm not willing to risk it. If you live in an area where fleas are not too big a deal then maybe. I don't know.

I use Frontline, I've used it for 10 years. Never a problem. Jack has severe allergies and another immune mediated disease, and his specialist feels that Frontline is the safest option for him. Even with his compromised immune system, he has never had a reaction or any adverse affects, he's never had even one (word removed for jinx preventation, lol) , and he's 8 years old.

We use Frontline too and we have a total of 9 dog years without...Don't want to type  flea on the end of that and jinx myself.

Good idea. I just changed my post. And I'm throwing in a Kenahora for both of us.

Just got home and now LOL ;)
Just a funny Hokum story. I went trekking in Brazil four years ago and didn't want to get bitten. I used 70% Deet and carried a large tin of Raid. My nickname amongst some of the others was "Napalm Nicky" as they read that ACV and something from Avon which was chemical free would keep them from bites. I was accused of polluting the air with all my stuff. The end result was that me and my friend remained bite free. The others ended up with huge dreadful boils all over and two were hospitalised on our return home.

Ps I use Advocate.

The Avon product was Skin So Soft. Probably still more effective than vinegar, lol.

Advocate is the same as Advantage plus. We don't have Lyme disease and I haven't seen ticks at all.
