Does your doodle bite all toys to pieces? Heppu does this to every toy, no matter what material they are. He tears every fabric to small pieces ( I tried to give him a tovel to play with) and shreds all newspapers and cardboards and even all plastic toys are in small pieces less than 10 minutes. Any idea why? Just because he can? ; ). Any ideas for toys that will last?
Samantha has even shredded 1 Puppy Kong so now we are on the solid red ones. She also shredded every toy she had except these:
1. 'Planet Dog' Tennis Balls - they are made out of a plastic that she can chew but not break. They bounce high and they float!
2. Thick, Heavy knotted ropes - you will pick up some threads but she can chew all she wants. The one that has lasted the longest is from Target. It was very stiff and she loves to chew on it.
3. Moo - Barnyard Buddy Momma from Sherpa Ped Products - I just ordered 2 more for Hanukkah for Samantha - She doesn't chew Moo but Moo did get a hole in it due to DH playing tug with it. She carries it around like it is her security blanket and best friend.
4. Rawhide Bones - I let Samantha have one to chew on as long as we are in the same room together for me to monitor her. http://www.activedogsupplies.com/sherpa-pet.html
Jordan is not much of garbage can thief but she will grab the butter wrapper in a heart beat.
Lately she will eat my Chapstick. She will chew the tube to a flatten mess my best guess is she wants the balm. She does not eat the plastic tube just mashes it up so she can get the "good stuff".
I catch her going to the usual places I keep it, looking for it.
I probably should look in to adding some sort of oil to her food.I think she after some sort of fat.
Have two shredders here as well. They just have a ball with boxes and paper bags.
Grover also like to systematically remove appendages from all his toys...arms, legs, ears, etc......but he does it in a nibbley, non-violent, way and will often work for days on one arm or leg.
Hah; Heppu does that too! He´s not agressive, he just works as long as it takes to get the toy in small pieces. Nice and easy in his own place. He gets bones often so it´s not that he needs to chewe.
Funny, Benny had a dogtoy which was also a dog. I thought it would help him in the beginning when he was still a puppy so that he wouldn't be alone while sleeping. He really loved his dogtoy and cuddled a lot with it. But some day he discovered chewing and he chewed the nose off. When the nose was off he took care of the eyes (of course no problem as it was a toy especially for dogs).
As the toy didn't look very nice anymore and the filling came out all the time Benny carried it around I decided to buy a new one and thought he wouldn't care. But he did: I gave him the new dogtoy and within 10 minutes ear and also both eyes were removed again. Afterwards he cuddled content with the toy. Unbelievable or? After this experience I decided not to buy another dogtoy again because I expect that he will remove nose and eyes again.
This is exactly what Ramen does as well!!!! Except it is minutes on each appendage. We actually video tapped for five minutes the last time we gave her a toy. Sherpa has actually sent us replacements and we are hoping she can be a test subject.
Who would have thought that Doodles would be more destructive to a toy than larger more aggressive dogs?
Benny is a shredder as well. A few weeks ago my partner left some banknotes on the table which he had left over from a business trip to the UK. Of course Benny destroyed them.....
He also loves to shred pillows. After he shredded already 5 pillows I now take away all pillows from the couch when I need to leave him alone for a while in the living room because it's really ennoying to buy new pillows every week.
He immediately shreds all rubber toys the only toy which lasts is the Kong. Although I must say that he shredded the Wubba Kong as well, but the normal rubber Kongs are still ok.
Tennisballs don't last long either but the worst thing is that he now discovered that he can shred his pillows, mats and blankets as well and I think I will end up broke if it goes on like that. I buy him chewing toys all the time to distract him from shredding other stuff but it's like with children. The forbidden stuff is always the most interesting stuff.....
We have discovered that Bailey destroys all his toys!! The only toys that have lasted are the KONG toys. We got him a few toys that were supposedly "indestructable" and had pictures of big bulldogs, rotweillers on the packaging, Bailey ripped it up in a matter of 15 mintues. So now he only has KONG toys and bones that you are allowed to eat. And he loves paper, but doesnt really eat it, like you said, just shreds it up. I guess they do it cause they can and its like a mission or something......
yes! it IS like a "mission"! I always say that when Beau gets ahold of some paper (like Kleenex or newspaper) that he feels it is his "job" to shred it immediately, if not sooner! LOL
I came home from work today to a huge mess....Jordan and or Payton (I think they both did it) got into our waste basket in our downstairs bathroom..... Thankfully it was all tissue, easy clean up. It went from the bathroom to living room.
