This sounds similar to my friend's goldendoodle, Sam, when he had kennel cough. I would have the vet check it out. When Sam had it, the cough almost sounded like a "backwards sneeze". Lots of love to Quincy. We hope he is feeling better soon!

Did the vet say kennel cough?

Oh my goiter, at 0:04 I didn't MEAN to giggle because the poor fella is not feeling good but the sound.....it's a cross between a seal and a sqeeze horn.  I can honestly say I've never before heard a noise like that come from a dog.

That's why I called it his seal imitation.  I agree it would be funny if it was not coming from my doodle!  But otherwise he seems fine.  As soon as he does anything the least bit exertional, like up the stairs in his usual bounding pattern, he coughs.  I go to the vet in a little while.

Kennel cough.

Yup.

I agree. He'll be

Lori, I am just seeing this.  I hope Quincy is feeling better soon.  I just had this conversation with my vet.  Lily Grace was vac'd 6 months ago for bordatella and my vet only likes to vaccinate once a year for dogs in day care.  She says it will only protect against one particular strain and unless the facility requires it she prefers to use the timing of one year between the doses.  She uses the nose spray rather than injections.

Tell the vet you think he has kennel cough. (Our vet wouldn't see the dogs until the end of the day to avoid exposure.) He's going to be fine soon. Poor guy.

Poor thing. My guess was right yesterday. I've got too much experience with kennel cough. Monty had it twice already. You feel so bad for them since there is nothing you can do. Hopefully the meds from your vet will work fast.

Kennel Cough, Riley got it when he started Day Care but got a very mild dose which only lasted 24 hours. It's horrible to listen to though :(  Hopefully Quincy got a mild dose too. You should call your vet and tell her/him what you think it is rather than just bringing him in as it is very contagious.

Sadie had something that sounded very much like this that lasted 24 hours. She kept me up all night one night, but it was over by the middle of the next day.

We were up all night, too.  Felt like being a new Mom again- and I am way older this time.  He is coughing much less, but still on exertion does cough.  I did tell the vet what I thought it was, but they said to bring him in.  I will keep him away from any other dogs if they are there.  they space their appointments, so it's never a packed waiting room.  I need a nap, myself. Quincy of course has been sleeping!
