When we bought our house in 2009, we did not have a dog on our minds. We live in the north suburbs of Denver so all the city houses have really small backyards, which was not an issue for us. We picked a house with a landscaped, low maintenance yard. Some rocks, some grass, some bushes. It even had a couple of garden areas for me.

Several months later we've decided to get Monty. There was an occasional digging, but nothing major. Our yard looked green and lush even with Monty's frolicking. Life was good:

I used one of my garden spots to create a designated digging place for Monty. The original idea was to get the dirt out and bring in sand, but that never materialized.

If you look at some of my older videos, you will see how green and jungle-like my backyard was.

Then came Auggie, the new self-appointed gardener...and nothing was safe from his inspection.

Bushes and trees? They need to be trimmed:

Shortly after Auggie's arrival, we put in bigger steps for the dogs to launch on and a "sidewalk" to the pee-pee side of the house:

The gardener Auggie never cared about the designated pee and poo side... his ideology was that every part of the backyard needs to be fertilized...

So after Auggie's care and just a blunt force trauma of 160 lbs+ of running speed, out backyard looks like this in the spring:

The grass is gone and so are probably the bushes:

The weed barrier has been ripped out, so the only thing that will grow in our backyard IS the weed:

And the digging spot is caving in because the dogs were digging too deep:

Other than that, we have a marry household. Once I win the lottery, I will buy a house with a lot of acreage for the dogs to run and dig. In the meantime, I'm happy my dogs are happy and healthy. Screw the backyard.

OMD don't get me started on the hardwood floors.  Apparently my builder uses pine wood flooring (which is the softest wood) and now I have scratches EVERYWHERE and I try to keep their nails short.  I've given up on constantly trying to clean up the paw prints, but the scratches still make me sad  :(

Absolutely Sherri!

What a difference that second doodle makes, huh? Flash is quite the landscaper too. Perhaps Auggie and Flash should go into business together! 2Doods Landscaping!

How about 2Doods Excavating...

I don't know how you got MY backyard at your house ! That 2nd to last picture of the doods shows pure joy ! Love it ♥

Welcome to my world, lol! I also have a very small yard and the four-legged freight train otherwise known as JD has taken out 7 bushes to date and most of the sod. After spending thousands of dollars on replacements, I realized that "screw the backyard" is the best (and cheapest) philosophy, at least until I buy that winning lottery ticket! ;-)

I don't have a green thumb to start with. If it does not grow on its own, I can't make it grow.

With those two beautiful boys in your backyard no body will be looking at the landscaping anyway!  Love your outlook.

Great story! Looks similar to our yard..and we only have one doodle!

Wow, so I just watched my first video of Auggie after we got him and re-read the comments. I have to give kudos to both F and Joanne. F said: "Auggie is adorable and may be a budding gardener."  Well, F, I can't say you did not warn me.

Joanne commented: "Ambidextrous!  Uh, oh.  I really think this little corker is going to be your athlete." And she was correct as well.

Well- at least you have the pictures to remind you!  Way more fun having a "used look" yard- just like my family room now looks!  I am wondering what our yard will look like once the warmer weather and our perennials grow back. That is IF they grow back especially in the current favorite pee pee spots !

I wonder if Monty is wondering what happened to his grass LOL!

I loved this...great reminder that the important things in life should be appreciated  :)  Everything about Auggie cracks me up!
