I keep hearing "kemp hair" I have googled, but no real definitinon of what this is. Exactly what is kemp hair? I am only been a doodle owner for 7 months, and I hope this isn't a dumb sounding question.
Thanks!

I thought it was long, white hairs that are longer than the rest of the dog's coat.
Hi,
If it makes you feel better, neither do I. So I hope someone replies to this post.

My understanding is that it is a patch of rough hair unlike the rest of the hair usually on the back.
I agree. It is rough, wirey hair and resembles a terrier's hair. My one dog (ALD) has kemp hair on his back. The other does not have any wirey hair. That is the way it was explained to me.

Ollie has it on his back. He was born red and faded out to cream but has reddish kemp along his spine. When he is clipped short it is not very noticeable but when I let him grow long, the reddish, wirey hairs are more pronounced.
Bailey has the same thing....Now I know what it is called...Thanks!
Thank you for the replies. I have a good idea of what kemp is. Just a few hairs on Savannah, except for a spot about mid tail that goes all the way arount her tail. Started showing up about a month ago...she was 6 months then. Now it is like she almost has a white ring around her tail. Kinda cute and distinguishing for her. She has a white streak narrow and about 3 inches long on her chest since birth, but it is very soft.
