Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

It's always interesting to me how there seems to be as many different preferred sleeping routines as there are dogs.  I have had dogs that prefer sleeping on the floor, down by the foot of the bed and in the kitchen.  My beagle liked to sleep with her head on the pillow, like a little person.  Humans, on the other hand, all seem to have more or less the same preference.  Yes, some sleep on their sides, others on their backs, etc. - but almost all prefer the best bed they can find and in the same general position relative to whomever else is in it.

Here's what Lola does:

I will usually watch TV for a while before I fall asleep at night.  She will jump in bed and watch with me for awhile.  When she can't keep her eyes open any longer, she goes down on the floor and falls asleep on her dog bed.

Then sometime in the early morning she comes back.  Typically I will wake up to find her snuggling her back against me, with her head down by my feet and her rear sticking up towards my face.  My hypotheses for this are: (1) she is being submissive/deferential/respectful, (2) my feet smell particularly good to her, (3) that way she can keep an eye on the door, so as not to neglect her "watch dog" duties (4) there is no reason whatsoever - it's just the way she does it.

Does anyone else's doodle do this?  I would be interested to know, and I thought that at the very least it would be an interesting conversation topic.

I vote for avoidance of morning breath ;-)
I dunno but Clark's old border collie used to sleep this way with him in bed.

Clark is my husband and the other admin of this site.  I forget not everyone knows him if he hasn't posted in a while.

Tell him we miss him : )

Kona comes up on the bed until we turn the lights off and then he jumps down to sleep on the floor. Sometimes he will come back up in the morning before their run. He used to very conscientiously sleep curled at the bottom of the bed but the last several months he has decided to sleep cross-wise on my side. I get no room and no covers. sigh. I love him so much I can't make him move. (not that you can actually move a 94 pound sleeping dog). haha

Love this Bonnie!

Me too <3

Well Jay, I hate to be the one to break it to you.... night breath that kind that just hasn't turned into full fledged morning  breath yet !  Sheesh, it happens, even to a very nice, doodle loving  guy like you !

Sorry Adina, I didn't even see your post before I posted mine ! Ha ha, great minds.......

:)

Delayed reaction ... took me a second. Gosh can you imagine if my feet actually smell better than my breath??? LOL

To a dog, possibly.  But I swear Rosco LOOOOOOVES my morning breath and he LOOOOOVES the smell of Clark's slippers.  Somewhere here there is a video of Rosco rolling in Clark's slippers after he takes them off.  So that doesn't say good things about my morning breath I suppose.

Libby lets us know around 10:00 pm it is time for bed and down the hall she goes.  She sleeps on the bed in between my DH and I at our feet.  Half the night she is on her tummy and the other half she lays on her back and stretches out which takes most of the bottom of our bed.  Our feet are secondary to her at this point, so we try and squeeze them in somewhere!  Of  course, I am the one that said, "no dogs in our bed" that was until we got a Doodle:)
