going to the bathroom in crate just at night

I have a 5 month old puppy and she is housebroken all day but at night when we crate her she poops in her cage. I let her out right before bed and i feed her dinner at 400. someone please help

When she goes out before bed, are you going out with her to see if she actually "goes" and praising her when she does? Perhaps a walk in the evening would help.

Is she crated near you at night? Can you hear her if she lets you know she has to go out and go potty? She is still young and just might have to go out once during the night.

For the first 10 days I had my puppy, I set the alarm to wake up every 2-3 hours to let her out. Now she holds it all night and goes right when I wake up...

Oh my! I went through this with Izzy! I took the crate away. Leashed her throughout the night while she slept on her bed next to my bed. Every time she moved I knew about it and checked what she was up too. We soon worked it out. Every two hours she needed to go. The every three. Then every four etc etc. took two weeks of sleep deprivation! All good now!

Stella did that too because the crate we had her in was too big. As soon as we made it a bit smaller it never happened again
