Before I launch into specifics, is there a list of approved/recommended probiotics? I have searched and read through many discussions and while I find a couple of brands mentioned, I have not come upon anything comprehensive or list-like...

We do not have a list. The two mentioned here, Proviable and iFlora, are both very good products for dogs.
