Bernedoodle owners out there in DK land?

Hello,

I know this is a labradoodle and goldendoodle site but we are getting a F1 bernedoodle in about a month and there is not a ton of info out there so I am hoping there are some here I can ask questions of. The breeder and their family members we are getting our puppy from has been breeding labs, poodles and labradoodles for many years but this is their first litter of bernedoodles. So some questions I have -
Personality of your bernedoodle
What do you feed? Do you use large breed puppy food? I know to transition slowly
How much does your bernedoodle weigh? Parents are both standard breed size (poodle and Berner)
Anything else you might like to share would be appreciated.

My neighbour has a bernedoodle-- Bernie.  He is about two years old.  He is a wonderful dog.  He is a gentle giant.  He is a bit timid with those that he doesn't know.  He gets along well with other dogs and loves our kids.   Our goldendoodle weighs 75 lbs and Bernie is significantly larger.  I'd guess 85 or 90 pounds maybe.  He is also taller.

Thanks for responding. We are so excited - we will be picking our puppy in a couple days and then we have about 3 weeks of waiting. I don't know anyone with one of these dogs but I have/do know people with Berners, Poodles, Labs and Labradoodles. Maybe I should blog about our new life with a Bernedoodle! Not sure I know how to do that, but it might be fun. I think we are going to be using Petcurean Now Fresh for large breed puppies. I love large dogs so if he/she is huge that is just fine :)

Hi, I just got a bernedoodle pup in May. He is now 4 months old. He weighs about 30 lbs. He is very energetic and very smart. He prefers to be with people but is adapting to crate training since I have to work. If you have any questions, please feel free to ask. Good luck with your new puppy. You will be in for a treat.

My new BD is 4 mos old, 30 lbs., I still feed him what the breeder recommended, large breed puppy food. Both parents are std. size although the mom seemed on the smaller side of a standard. He is a handful but smart and learning quickly. He has a sweet disposition but when those hormones flow he can be a wild man. Lol. I think you will just love your bernedoodle. Good luck. Sorry I have been out of the loop for awhile.  

Our Bernedoodle is now 5 months old and quite the joy. It has been an interesting journey to this point.  Puppies are a lot of work and we knew that and thought we were prepared but it was still a shock - kinda like a baby, you think you know what your getting into the second time but somehow you are still a little stunned that you ever lived through it. LOL One obstacle we had to take care of was fleas, we caught it early and took care of it quickly. It was a new experience for us - I hate bugs! He potty trained without any poop accidents in the house and only a few pee accidents. He took to the crate with a little arguing but has adapted and it is now his comfortable place.  He weighs 50 lbs and is still growing he is black and white (I will try to figure out how to post his photo) and has such soft fleecy fur/hair. He is an F1 and we have found a few spots of fur here and there but no major shedding so far.  He hated being brushed when we first brought him home but now he knows it's just part of life in this house so he decided to enjoy it ;-) He isn't fond of other dogs, he tolerates them and we do take him to daycare once a week here so he can be around other dogs but it is not something he loves.  He likes people but seems to be content to just hang out with his family and that is just fine with us - we think he is Awesome. It will be interesting to see how big they get when full grown.

Oh, he sounds like a wonderful Doodle and he is soooo adorable!  Libby at five months did not really care for other dogs, but now she is great with them.  We took her to socializing classes and went out with her a lot and it is all good!  In our neighborhood there is one dog she does not like for what reason we do not know.  So if we come upon them while walking I talk to her, move to the other side of the street and give her the "leave it" command and she is pretty good, but growls and gets nasty towards the dog. Who knows??

He is beautiful, the same age as mine, funny how different they look. Mine is more light tan and black with only a tiny bit of white on the chest. They are a great blend of Berner & Poodle arent they? Is yours very active? Will you have him neutered? I am hoping it will calm mine down a bit, lol. He is losing his puppy teeth all over the place and has really discovered his voice. I had 2 full bred Berners and I doubt the Bernedoodle will get even close to their size/weight. So nice to see other BD owners out there. So glad they rarely shed as well, lol.

It is amazing how different they look, even in their own litters. Some of Joules litter mates had less white and some hardly any at all, but they were all black and white.  I love his markings, just looking at him makes me smile.  I was told (not sure if its true) that both parents have to carry the phantom gene to produce the tan markings like your sweet baby. Joules mom was a cream colored Std Poodle, and of course the dad a Std Berner. He has about 3 really active times during the day when he is wild. In the morning right after breakfast, mid day and after supper. He loves to fetch - not always give or drop it - tug is super fun too and its hard to decide which he wants to do most. LOL Other than that he is just a big loving rug. He hates the heat and finds the floor vents to lay on when the central air kicks on.  This winter will be fun to watch him in the snow! Losing teeth, oh my goodness!!!! He lost 5 in one week and that was just the ones we found.  I wondered if he was gonna have any teeth left. He has a very scary deep bark, doesn't match his personality at all but it does command attention.  Yes, we neutered, we agreed to and he is just recovering from that the hardest part is keeping him calm and mellow - The cone of shame is a hoot! From our perspective not Joules' :-)) poor baby.
