I just started noticing how my 4 month old pup's fur on one portion of his back is very thin compared to the rest of his body. Is this normal as his coat comes in? I haven't seen him scratching at all. Not sure if this is normal? The rest of his fur is really thick and full.

Do you have a photo?

Yeah I'm trying to take a good one now. It's hard to tell in the picture. One sec :)

It's really thick and full on the lower half of his body but up top it gets really thin

He will go through a coat change and many of them do change quite a bit.  However at only 4 months it seems a little early but I guess it could be that.  Hopefully someone else will have better input for you.

Shaggy has crazy hair that had simular growth as your pup. What I realized was the thick parts needed MAJOR brushing to get all the dead hair out.:-/ It can also take more than a year to see the final adult coat, Shaggy is 14 months and his coat is still changing.
Bayley had crazy thick and wiry hair on her back above her tail. It was hard to get a brush or comb to penetrate it. At 1 1/2 years it seems to be better. Also I switched from the green Les Pooch to the purple and it made a big difference for me. It's funny how the hair texture varies on different parts of their bodies when they are growing up and then seems to even out eventually.
