The other night I was washing blueberries when Vern and Fudge came around to see if something good was happening. I never feed them from the table, but I took two blueberries and gave them each one. Now, when I say I gave them each one, I mean Vern stood and looked at me like, “what am I supposed to do with this blue thing?” Fudge took it gingerly in her mouth and decided to take her newfound treat to the dining room just in case Vern was hot on her tail. Vern was still back in the kitchen deciding whether or not I was trying to poison him or if this was April Fools Day! Once he saw that Fudge was interested in her blueberry, he decided to give it a shot and took the blueberry from me as if I had just handed him a loaded gun. He promptly ran into the dining room and spit it on the floor. From there, both dogs decided a better place to eat a blueberry would be in the sunroom and picked their bounty up and ran out the door only to spit it on the carpet out there. I was envisioning having to get the carpet cleaned by the time each of them downed one stinking blueberry.
Fudge finally ate her new treat, but Vern decided there were some things he absolutely refused to swallow and lo and behold, it was a blueberry. Who knew the dog that eats mud, grass, goose poop, and Kleenex had a discerning palate? I guess he had to draw the line somewhere. Luckily, Fudge decided one blueberry was not enough and was more than happy to eat Vern’s. Fudge has the body of someone who loves fruits and vegetables. Vern’s body is more of a meat and cheese kind of shape. I think Vern takes after me, because I like my blueberries with a little sugar on them or with ice cream or even surrounded by a muffin. Unfortunately for Vern, I have to draw the line somewhere, too.
Is there some food or treat that your dog surprisingly will not eat?

Kibble! Unless it is hand fed on our walk.
Yikes....my dogs love their Kibble or they would starve :)
Nothing I can think of, but my guys are pretty restricted on what I can give them. When I do "hand feed" them any treat, Murph takes his, drops it, and watches to see Guinness eat his first. Then if his brother seems to like it, he goes ahead and eats his. I think he just wants to make sure it's "good enough" for him. When I'm using treats for training I have to go through this ritual first and get that out of the way...then after that he'll willingly take it. Crazy Doodles!
Remember the old commercial?
Give it to Mikey. He won't eat it, he hates everything. Hey Mikey!! He Likes It.
Oh my....I do remember that commercial. I didn't cheat and watch the video....Life cereal, right??
My dh and I are so old that we still use that Mikey bit when there is odd food.... :-}
Vern watches Fudge a lot, too, to see what she is going to do. He has almost decided he does not like peanut butter since it is what we give them when we leave the house. I am not sure who ends up eating it. Fudge is like, "oh, she's leaving....YAY...time for PB!" These Doods like rituals. Fudge has a new one for going out. I have to open the door and walk away before she will exit :)
Sounds like Fudge and Vern :)
Lucy is on a food trial at the moment and she is allowed only her food, and apples, carrots or pears as treats. Well, apples and pears are a big no thank you, and the carrots if I microwave a plate of the carrot chips for one minute and 15 seconds and make them just right she will eat them. Mind you though once they are cold then you have to pop them back in for another 10 seconds to slightly warm them again. It is a pain in the U know what! But there are just certain times that she expects a treat and we feel so guilty if we don't have something to give her.
Here is a new recipe for your berries though that I just tried this week-end. I'm one of those cooks that if it has more than a couple ingredients or takes more than 5 minutes to prepare then I lose interest so this was a good one.
24 oz of frozen mixed berries
One white cake mix (no pudding in the mix)
1 can diet 7 up
place frozen berries on bottom of 9x13 pan. Sprinkle dry cake mix over the berries.
Pour diet 7 up over the top (do not mix)
Place in 350 degree over for 50 mins.
Wonderful cobbler. Love it warm with a scoop of ice cream.
Sheri, You are not helping my diet, although with the diet 7 Up, I am sure this is calorie free :) I am definitely going to try this one. Thank you! Isn't it amazing what we do for our dogs? Fudge has so many things she likes "just so," and I always accommodate her :) I am nicer than when my kids were little. LOL
