We've only had Millie since Friday, so we don't know her real well yet. But, she seems to get so hot so easily! It was like 80 degrees here this weekend, and she was so warm trying to find shade. And you could tell it just zapped her energy. In the house, she panted nearly non-stop. It didn't feel too hot for us, but she acted like it was 100 out!
Is this common? Are your puppies overly warm as well?

Hi, My Toby is almost 8 months and we always say he's hot blooded because it would be 60 in the house and he would act like it was 100. He pants ALL the time and yes it was 80 in our house to it was like he had no energy, it was kinda nice, LOL. I got a lot of stuff done. Then it cooled off and he made up for it. Your Millie is so adorable!!!! I actually wanted a girl and to name her Millie, but there were only 2 males left, so I ended up with my Toby :) Oh, I bought Toby a plastic kids pool and he plays in it forever and it helps keep him cool :) I believe it is normal.
Great to know! Also love that he enjoys a kiddie pool! :) We'll have to see how Millie acts. We showed her a creek yesterday, and she wasn't overly impressed.
Thank you on the name! It was one of the very few names that DH and I both liked, and the kids also liked it. Whew. Toby's a great name as well! I said if we would have gotten a male I would have loved to name him Mr. Ruxpin :) However, we needed smaller, so a female suited us the best.
We just got our little guy on Saturday and it has been cold and raining here so I don't have any experience with him specifically in the heat. However, my mom has a standard poodle and a shi-poo and she swears by their cooling jackets. They are made of special fabric that you get wet and it instantly cools them off and keeps them cool a long time. I've seen them in action too, I was amazed. Her little guy was panting like crazy and my mom got his jacket wet and gave it to me to put on him and he immediately closed his mouth and relaxed. If I can find the right fabric I'll be making one for my pup, and some to grow into.
Cool! I'll have to look into them as well! And for now, Millie just has her own personal fan. :)
we have had our puppy for a week (he's 10 weeks), and he gets hot easily too!
likes to find the shade when it is time to potty outside, and he likes to find the cold spots on the floor. and he drinks a lot of water. When holding him...he does put off heat, so maybe they are 'hot' dogs!!
Our Roxy is always looking for cool places too. She prefers to lay on ceramic tile over the carpet. She drinks a lot also. I give her ice cubes through out the day. She enjoys playing with them and chewing on them. I hope they help to keep her cool and summer temps haven't hit NJ yet, but we have an inground pool so I'm hoping she likes to swim :)
I have a snuggle puppy for her. I wonder if I could replace the heat packs w/ some ice packs. LOL... wonder if that would help too?
Hot! Always. One thing to note here, as I saw you posted about the water issue also. Water is a pet pev of mine and I wrote about it in your discussion. My beliefs are hydrate, hydrate, hydrate! You have a growing puppy.
As for heat, this puppy is a baby. An infant, really. Infants and the elderly are more prone to heat stress. Be aware and be cautious of heat, water, activity, etc. Certainly the same for puppies as it is for human warnings we hear about during the summer months.
Give that puppy a drink and some shade too
Enjoy that new baby! :)
OK, will do!!! I wonder if I should take her blanket out of her kennel on warm days too? She has been plopping down on linoleum. That doesn't seem right for her to lay on a hard floor in the kennel though!
