Charlie has had one seizure in February of 2011. Nothing since then. For the past few days he has been doing this strange thing. He will be laying down, not sure if he is sleeping or just resting as he has always been in a different room. All of a sudden I will hear him jump up frantically and I hear sounds like him running in place (think of a cartoon where the character tries to run but doesn't go anywhere). By the time I get to him he is just standing still staring at me. He has done this about 7 or 8 times in the last 3 days. He also is healing from a pulled muscle in his back thigh so not sure if maybe he is in pain from that? And, I had put his flea/tick medication (Vectra3D) on him about 2 days before this started. I have a call in to his vet and will probably hear from her late tonight or tomorrow. Has anyone had something like this happen and if so do you know what the cause was? Thanks for any help!

Gosh Diana I have no clue, but I would be wondering if the Vectra3D might have something to do with the strange behavior. I am a "worry person" when it comes to medication and since it started after using it, you might ask the vet. I hope you find out what is going and and Charlie feels better and gets over these "moments"! Keep us updated!
Diane, This sounds like it could be a seizure. Finn had one after being give Heartgard although the vet doesn't believe it was the cause because he had been given the medication 3 days before. I'm not convinced. It sounded very much like what you described. He was on his bed when his legs started flailing. Had he been on a floor, it would have been very noisy. I couldn't wake him up at first and then he seemed dazed - post-octal stage. Thankfully it hasn't happened again but we're watching him. closely.
It seems the ingredient Spinosad in Vectra 3 D has been associated with seizures and is not recommended for dogs who have had seizures, so it's possible that this is the culprit. I'd have him seen by a vet to rule a muscular problem in or out. IF it is a seizure- 7-8 times in 3 days would be considered a cluster and that needs immediate vet attention. Good luck and I hope Charlie gets over these episodes.
