Im not sure where to really start. We noticed Sophie was bleeding from her gums after playing over the holiday weekend with kids an another dog. we irrigated and made sure nothing was stuck in there. Today we went to the vet to see if we missed anything. She found the purple marks all over her body and said she thinks her blood isn't clotting right and she is running a bit of a temp. We were transferred to the 24 hr emergency vet because they can do blood tests on site and she was worried about maybe rat or mouse poisoning. thank god they ruled that out right away with tests. the picture is all the tests they have done so far. Here is a list of things they found wrong and what they are doing to treat until more tests come back.
Bleeding from gums
red/purple spots over body
mild anemia
very few platelets
Sophie 10,000 platelets
normal 200,000 platelets
Treatment
steroids immunosuppressive does
doxycycline for possible tick bite infection
If anyone has any info that may help me out here on what is going on it would be very very appreciated or if you think I should post this in a specific or other areas to get the most responses let me know. Still kind of in shock that this is all happening.

So as of today she had her x-ray and full body ultra sound. she s still eating and going out regularly and happy attitude. her platelets have not improved yet but its still early but they have not gotten any worse. They cant seem to find why this is happening even with all the tests but are confident they can treat it. They did notice something odd on the ultra sound that is totally unrelated but kind of makes me a little mad it wasn't found when she was a puppy before we purchased her. She only has 1 kidney. it is working fine and shouldn't pose a problem but has no backup if it ever fails. Is this something the breeder should have known about.
Thank you everyone for your prayers and positive thoughts they are very much appreciated and when Sophie gets home I plan on reading them all to her.
I am glad that she is holding her own. I really don't think the breeder could have known about the kidney. Unless you have cause to look inside your body, you have NO idea of the health or presence (or lack of) 'parts. This is true for everyone. My niece had one healthy kidney and one that was split into two parts. The only reason we knew was because she had to have some tests where it came to light.
Bob that is great news. I hope that she continues to improve and that this occurrence is a one time thing. I would most definitely let the breeder know about Sophie's condition, including the one kidney. Hopefully the breeder will help with the medical bills. I will continue to keep you and Sophie in my prayers. Continue to keep us posted.
I'm so very sorry to hear about Sophie. I hope they get to the bottom of this soon. It is encouraging to know they feel they can treat it.
new update. she is still eating and drinking and going potty and all around happy go lucky Sophie. The nurse that has been on since 6 pm has not noticed any bleeding from her mouth or anywhere new which I think is great news. That means she is starting to clot and I guess her platelet count will start to go up. They are waiting on a few more tests for some tick borne illnesses and they should be back tomorrow but more then likely it is just a odd fluke that this happened. I did send the breeder a few emails earlier today about everything that is going on and they are checking with their vet. She has a lot of people pulling for a quick recovery. Again thank you for all the positivity it has kept me relatively sane through all of this.
That's great news Bob. It sounds like this thing is starting to turn around! :) I hope it does turn out to be a fluke and this is the one and only episode. Hopefully she can come home soon. You must miss her terribly and her you! Thanks for the update, I've been thinking about you guys throughout the day.
That is wonderful!
I know you have lots of people sending you good thoughts. I'm sure you must be worried and I really hope that Sophie heals quickly. She is lucky you are so quick reacting and seeing that she gets the best care. Keep us updated with her progress.
That's encouraging news. Hoping she will be well enough to come home soon very soon...maybe today.
Glad to hear she is doing better and I too, hope she is home with you very soon!
well as of today here platelet levels are back up to 100,000 and she is coming home. I will know more about everything they tested for when matt comes back with her and can update on that later. I can not wait to see my little fluff monster.
