Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum
Hello Everyone,
I am new here. I have 11 week old golden doodle "Theo". He is having hard time past few week with his tummy (trowing up, water mainly) Looking for some help from experts .
He was on Costco brand puppy food when I picked him at 8 weeks from breeders and we moved him to Taste of the wild salmon after that. 2nd day at home he started throwing up water/clear liquid mostly (not sure if its bile fluid) and 1 or 2 times threw up food too .
Vet suggested moving to rice and chicken with bit of cottage cheese. He did well and eventually and he stopped trowing up.Then we started him back on puppy food slowly along with chicken and rice . Last 2 days he is back on only puppy food and he started vomiting again :(
Could this be due to food? Vet took x-ray and Parvo test both came out normal. She is suggesting he might have esophagitis or mega-esophagus. No new clue what to do next . Anyone had this issue ?
Thanks in advance for the help and suggestion

Renu, you can buy the famotidine anywhere, it's a human OTC medication; any pharmacy, and even in the grocery store. I would get it ASAP.
We keep this on hand for Luna whenever she has an upset tummy. It works really well combined with a bland diet of rice and chicken.
We had Theo on antibiotic befor for the loose stool issue. Now we have completed the course
Thanks Julie and Charlie & Karen & Jackdoodle i will go in today and get the pepcid
I see several things here that make me NOT worry.
Grass makes dogs throw up! Regurgitate with the stomach flexing in and out, just as you describe. It wont hurt them but it certainly doesn't help either. Don't let Theo eat any grass.
2. Water- when my puppy ( he is 4.5 now) plays and drinks water, he throws up water. A lot. This is my cue to have the dog settle down some. But, I don't worry about him. He is just fine. He just does not always know when to take a break, catch his breath, and stop playing. So time out. Chill out.
Young puppies puke sometimes. A lot of times. Their tummies are very young. Hey, my human sons puked a lot as babies. Constantly.
When Spud was younger he puked for not eating, drinking too much water, too much play, eating grass, too much food... just a lot of reasons.
The xray showed.... esophagitis? Or, it showed nothing? this part confuses me?
Okay, maybe it makes some dogs throw up and not others? My dogs, all of them, have thrown up when eating grass. Oh, and so do my cats. I actually have nice little indoor grass, which they love, and then they throw up. I don't think throwing up is always a bad thing either. For some dumb reason only they know, they love a good grass salad just so they can throw up? As long as they don't do it too much and they are not sick for a reason ( like an illness)
My sister used to tell me, that grass actually had a natural soothing to animal's tummies. Dont know if I still believe that one.
I noticed you said you give Theo ice cubes instead of water. My daughter's dog can not eat ice cubes at all because every time he eats ice he throws up. I don't know why this happens....but maybe Theo is the same way. Try just giving small amounts of water at a time instead of a big bowl of water or ice cubes.
I hope you can figure out what is going on with little Theo and I hope he is better soon. He is very cute!
And yet, JD's internist insists on small amounts of ice or ice water only when he is vomiting from an IBD flare.
I was not giving him ice before , just started recently since he gulps and finishes his water so fast and keep drinking more. He doesn't bit eon it rather keep licking and take s awhile to finish 2 ice cubes. If keeps him engaged as well :) he kind of getting fed up all his toys.
I will be going vet tomorrow and hopefully i get to see the x-ray and get some explanation.
So far no episodes today where water or food came outside, he keeps on having hiccups , burping and swallow bit. Will see if the antacid is going to help . Figures crossed !!!
Today morning Theo threw up again.I gave the pepcid today along with morning food. I hr after that for a change instead of ice i gave half hub of water , with in 5 min he took the entire water out.:(
