Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

Hello Everyone,

I am new here. I have 11 week old golden doodle "Theo". He is having hard time past few week with his tummy (trowing up, water mainly) Looking for some help from experts .

He was on Costco brand puppy food when I picked him at 8 weeks from breeders and we moved him to Taste of the wild salmon after that. 2nd day at home he started throwing up water/clear liquid mostly  (not sure if its bile fluid)  and 1 or   2 times threw up food too .

Vet suggested moving to rice and chicken with bit of cottage cheese. He did well and eventually and he stopped trowing up.Then we started him back on puppy food slowly along with chicken and rice . Last 2 days he is back on only puppy food and he started vomiting again :(

Could this be due to food? Vet took x-ray and Parvo test both came out normal. She is suggesting he might have esophagitis or mega-esophagus. No new clue what to do next . Anyone had this issue ?

Thanks in advance for the help and suggestion

Renu, can you explain what you mean by a half "hub" of water?

The Pepcid usually works best when you give it before the food, 20-30 minutes if possible.

sorry its a typo, i meant cup . My husband tried to give him water later int he morning again and same thing happened where the threw up all the water in few min

i read the pepcid instruction bit late , will try to give 30 min before. Any suggestion on how to give just the tablet? put some peanut butter on it or so?

I would give it without anything else. It's a small pill, so it's a good one for learning how to "pill" a dog without any nonsense, lol. Open her mouth wide, and drop the pill in as far back as you can get it, then quickly close her mouth and hold it shut until she swallows, gently massaging her throat. With a little practice, it's not difficult.

If you have to coat it with something to get her to take it, use plain chicken baby food, the "stage one" kind made for young infants. Peanut butter is too high in fat for a dog with ongoing GI issues.

Thanks Karen, will try it with tonight'd dose

Quick update on Theo:

I took him to the vet today got his 2nd roung of shots and talked to her about 2 incidents of water throwing up .She told me to continue antacid twice a day and continue monitor if things didnt get better she will send him to specialist

With all this he did grow 4 lb in 2 weeks now at 16 lb

Weight Gain is GREAT news

Update on Theo :)

He is 13 week now and Vet confirmed he is regurgitating not vomiting and he is still on pepcid twice a day. Diagnosis Vet still not clear on whats going on so asking for second xray to make sure the dilation of the esophagus is real and repeatable.

Later on she is asking us to take additional test like swallow study too. I trying to find a good internal medicine specialist for him to get things clear than wasting money and time but no luck yet :(

Last 2 days been incident free , i am hoping he will improve and be healthy

Renu, here is a link to "Find A Specialist" page for the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine Specialists website:  http://www.acvim.org/PetOwners/FindaSpecialist.aspx

Thank you for the update, and good luck with finding a specialist..please keep us posted!
