Ah, Sophie has met her match. We try to watch her and then just say 'off' and give her something else. The other day I was sitting at the counter and thought she was laying below playing with a chew toy. When I looked, she had chewed the paint off our molding. Her toy was lying beside her. LOL
I thought it was cute that she looks out the windows until I noticed the tiny teeth marks in our faux wood blinds. :)
We have Bitter Apple as well, which is supposed to be a deterrent. However, it does not deter her for long.
Kona used to do this, we used hot sauce. She got the hint :) Good luck!
Griffin will chew on wood too - and sofas and comforters... We try re-directing and that works okay. He only seems to do it when bored and wanting attention...
Bella loves to chew the corners of cabinets, stairs, and any wood edging she can get her teeth into. I've tried the vicks too and she just licked it off and continued chewing. Our friends gave us deer antlers from their ranch and she seems to love chewing on that.
We have a wood chewer! All the corners of our furniture, sticks, and even paper products. Like you, bitter apple (etc) was no deterrent.
The best thing we can think of is to keep her tired and busy chewing appropriate things. We thought we could trust her in the kitchen when we went to take a nap, but she discovered that she also liked dry wall. So lots of play and walks, and then crate time if we can't supervise her.
I'm curious to see if anyone else has any ideas!
We had a chewer also. He chewed on everything. He chewed on the deck, the baseboards, even the corner of walls. My husband discovered that he really did not like the taste of Tabasco sauce so he (DH) bought some large bottles of it and used a dauber to put it on everywhere the pup was chewing. He didn't like that and quit chewing. Maybe he was over the stage anyway, but he stopped chewing and has never resumed. He loves bully sticks and will take his stick outside and lay on his bed and chew for 20 minutes. The stick lasts an hour, but I give them 20-minute chew sessions and then take it away and put in a zip-lock baggie until the next day. I actually put the timer on the oven on their sessions and they seem to know that when the timer goes off it is time to turn in their bully sticks.
My girls chew everything, wood carpet, toys, computer parts, remote controls, chairs, plants, you name it! Someone once suggested cayenne pepper, also good for digging??? Good luck, as they've gotten older they are less destructive if that helps?
Luna has never really been interested in chewing parts of the house.... but in general, I'd say your pup may have to be tethered to you as you go about the house, that way he can be supervised. If he gains your trust then let him loose in 1 room at a time - if he chews anything... back on the tether!
My Tess is 13 weeks old and she chews everything too. I have purchased lots of chew toys, have found she does best with the strong rope toys and the deer antlers. The deer antlers are natural and durable so I don't feel so bad with her chewing on them, some of that stuff has some pretty bad ingredients. I just bought her a ball with a round gripper on the end she loves playing fetch and chew with that too. I have found that you have to be careful and watch them closely when chewing on some of these toys because a lot of them are not durable and big dogs with large teeth can chew off and swallow small pieces. So glad we crate train that has been a life saver with chewing, potty training, and whining. She knows when I say Kennel it means time to get in kennel, I don't have to pick her up anymore. These doodles are so darn smart took my Yorkie a while to learn that one but she is very stubborn!
