I am wondering if people will share how much it costs to have a trainer come out to the house.  We found a trainer that is really nice and seems very good.  He charged $689 for four visits.  The first visit was 1.5 hours and the rest are 1 hour long.  Considering the fact that we are working with a fear aggressive dog, this process could take a very long time and we just can't afford $150/hour/week for the next six months.  We live outside of Houston, TX and I don't know if we just live in a very expensive area for dog training or is that the going rate?

It sounds like you are making more progress on your own.  It doesn't sound like this trainer is worth what he is charging.  Have you asked your Vet about a trainer in your area?

We live in NYC and our current trainer charges $150 per hour for a private lesson. We've had 3 trainers since we got Seamus and its been a good experience meeting and trying our different trainers and classes.  If possible, I would recommend meeting another trainer. Have you searched on Yelp where others rate them?  I need another job to pay for all of this:-) haha

Yes the trainer we have is the one the vet and area kennels recommend for fearful dogs.
We live in Henderson, Nv. We paid $600 for 4 weeks df meeting twice per week for an hour each time. First vivat was z2 hours. Hurley has a mild disposition so we did not have any specific behavioral challenges. He is the first indoor dog we have ever had. It was more us that needed the training.

I found another training facility that also does in-home visits.  They charge $200/hour for 3 pre-paid private lessons and an additional $75/visit for in home visits!!  Another location was $150/hour. I guess it might just be expensive here.

I think we will continue to work on our own and maybe get a private lesson whenever we get stuck on something.

Wow Patti, those prices are amazing....I'm surprised they get any customers with those rates.  I'll be happy to help in any way.  Feel free to call me anytime...you know, I've been where you are.

Thanks Jane!

Right now we really want to get Bosco to the point where we can have someone come in the house.  He doesn't need to go near them, just be calm on his little sofa or in the bedroom or maybe even in the living room if they don't approach him.

His walks have gotten much better but that is because we keep him away from people as much as possible.  He tolerates being within a certain distance of people as long as they don't look at him or sometimes he gets upset if they are trying to talk to us while they have a dog with them.  Our trainer hasn't been out on walks with us.  He hasn't really gotten close to Bosco except for the time they met at the pet food store.  Interestingly, at the pet food store and at the kennel/day care Bosco let's people touch him.
