Be careful of Xylitol

Just an fyi, my 8 month GD, lucas ate a package of vitamin c drops with Xylitol. he is now in the emergency hospital for two days getting his liver flushed out and being watched for seizures, liver damage (GF failure) and hypoglycemia. this is something to be careful of, the bill is up to 2 grand.Thank goodness I found this site and got insurance! He is not out of the woods, they have to check his liver levels every three hours, I hope and pray he will be ok...please keep your pups away from sugar free candy!

Oh dear! poor Lucas!!

As a new GD owner, I am appreciative to learn what NOT to have around. Thank you for sharing the news in this difficult time. Hope he has a speedy recovery!! I have only had my doodle for 4 weeks and I can tell they like to eat everything! I have no clue what is safe or not, so am constantly doing the finger sweep!!

Lolololol! I'm glad to know I'm not the only one that constantly does "the finger sweep". Finley is always "finding" treasures in the yard and I never know what it is so in goes my finger!!! Haha!

Lucas is HOME!!! He still has to be brought in for one more blood test tomorrow. Phew, we made it through THIS crisis. Does anyone know if the "eating everything in sight" stage will pass? Or is it a Doodle trait for life? Two weeks ago, it was ingested k-cups, this week was xylitol, when can I catch my breath????? He is one tired puppy, but resting quietly. I am just so happy to have him home and so grateful for all of your well wishes, thank you!
