Hello ,

I searched a bit but didn't find much details on separation anxiety.

My Theo is going to be 12 weeks now , he is well behaved so far considering his age.Know few commands like NO, sit , wait , inside and quite. He wasn't crate trained when we got him and now eventhough he hates his crate we put him inside after meals and at night. He cried for few days then he got used to it and was quite inside (wont play at all , just lay down or sleep always).

On Monday i took him for Vet for vaccination he came home acting normal until dinner. When i put him in crate he started barking and continues in out for over 2 hr even after took him to pee . Then i thought the vaccination or de-worming had some effect.

Yesterday he was ok didnt had much of bad incident but today he started again started crying from morning breakfast crate time itself by slamming his paw on the crate gate and didn't stop for over 1.5 . I tried the Quite command and shake can...not luck. Finally  when he quieted for few min i took him out for been and tied him to crate and went upstairs

I read in some articles online that a dominant puppy thinks you are his pack and suppose we are not suppose to leave him. So when we move away and he think he cant protect us he gets stressed and start barking and have separation anxiety. Unknowingly i was always sitting in a couch in from of him last 3 week almost all the time when i was watching him (was working from home for 3 week for him).

No idea how to break this habit now and barking is getting on my nerve. Need help !!!

Hi there,

The barking can be so frustrating!

Two things that we have had some success with:

- tiring her out before crating her (running around outside for even just 15 minutes seems to help)

- giving her favourite bully stick or treat ONLY in the crate. Now when I bring the bully stick out, she runs into her crate to wait.

It doesn't always work - we've had some barking, and she still doesn't love her crate, but it has helped.

Good luck!

Thx for the advice,Theo has been calmer in crate lately if i tire him before putting in . He still doesn't like us leaving him alone but tolerates it as long as we come back soon
