I took Meg in for her bath this morning and while we were waiting for the groomer to get there we practiced her manners a bit.  A man pulled up with a truckload of 'tweeners' to do some service work at the vet's office there.  He came right over, with all the kids, and asked if he could approach her and I gave him permission.  He then asks, 'if she a full Airedale?' and I said not at all, she is a scruffy coated labradoodle.  and he actually says, "oh, she is a mutt..."  what?  Did he really say that to us?  Don't ask me how, because I was seething after it was over but I continued to smile and said to him, "of course she is a mutt, a well bred mutt to tell the truth, BUT, she does not know that, no matter what she just thinks she is a well cared for, well mannered  and much loved part of the family and no matter what type of dog she walks past...she knows she is just as good"  Why would any one think it is there business to point out the pedigree or lack of for any one else's pet, my own pedigree is pretty mixed...just sayin.

By the way, we were still practicing our 'sit/stay' with all the commotion when he came back out and decided to compliment her on her behavior.

Oh Lawdy! I have no patience for that kind of ignorance.

Through this selective breeding (meaning inbreeding!), the dog has developed into hundreds of varied breeds, and shows more behavioral and morphological variation than any other land mammal."
ALL dogs are mutts! The only difference is those who are coined "purebred" are inbred..much like the person you spoke with. ;) The Labradoodle was originally bred to be hypoallergenic service/therapy/family friendly dogs. What more noble cause is there to create such a breed.

Just as we don't want people bashing doodles, I don't think we want to be bashing purebred dogs here, either. After all, many of our doodle's parents are purebreds. Not all purebreds are inbred, and a lot of people here have purebred dogs in addition to their doodles. All dogs are great.  

Let's not be guilty of doing the same thing that we're speaking out against, criticizing other people's dogs. We can defend our doodles without doing that.

I'm not bashing. I like all dogs. I'm stating a fact. ;)
However I WAS insulting the person who said her dog was a mutt.

That's not a fact. All purebreds are not inbred, and that is a derogatory comment to make about purebred dogs, although I'm sure you didn't mean it that way. Selective breeding does not equal "inbreeding". And some doodles are inbred. That went on a lot in Australia, where labradoodles originated. There are all kinds of purebreds, just like there are all kinds of mixed breed dogs. Let's just agree that they're all good. :-)

LOL Fine! I agree they are all good and no I did not mean it entirely that way. Just my form of humor/sarcasm.  But I'm still going to give anyone an earful that wants to try and insult my dog with such nonsense. /:)
I may even have it printed on business cards for those days I don't have time to argue. :D  sans the inbred comment .

Well, this is getting good.  I love my mutts and they are neutered so will not be making any more mutts.  The whole thing about Australia originating the labradoodle was interesting, and then it got to the U.S.  Beware of what has gone on here because mutts are definitely mutts.  And they are delightful dogs.  American ingenuity!  Let's argue about that.

Just re-reading all of this and thinking. A person can say, or think whatever they want about our Doodles.

The bottom line is, it only irritates us ! Our doodle doesn't care one little bit.

All they care about, is that we love them as much as they love us. Real insults, or what we interrupt as unkind words get US all worked up, and angry. That is how the ignorant, or stupid people win every time ! The really sad part is, they walk away not ever having a clue, and we have wasted time being angry. Time we can't get back all for being upset at some thoughtless moron.

In the end, WE are the lucky ones with our Doodles, and that is something everyone on this page realizes. We are lucky, and loved  our Doodles are lucky, and loved. AMEN !!
