Monty and Auggie were playing in the backyard yesterday evening while I was trying to take some pictures of them. There is not much green grass left in our backyard, so when Monty rolls, all sorts of stuff gets into his coat. As they were playing, suddenly Monty started sneezing like crazy. I mean, at least 10 sneezes in a row. He would cringe his nose to the right before the sneeze. I tried looking in his nose to see if there is something in there that is tickling him, but could not see deep enough. He ran inside to lay down. Later on he sneezed for a couple of time during the evening.
This morning I took them to a dog park and he did not sneeze while he was running around. In the afternoon, he started barking at our neighbor dogs across the fence (he does not like one of the dogs that growls). After a few barks he had a sneezing fit again. Again, moving his nose to the right side.
A few minutes ago we had a tornado warning in the area, the sirens were sounding and a recorded voice announced the warning. Both dogs started barking at the voice, and after a few barks, Monty had about 6 sneezes in a row.
How can I help him? Is it possible that he has something stuck in his nose that is bugging him? I don't think it's allergies since this just started last evening and I think he would be itching and scratching with allergies. What should I do? Just wait and see if he finally gets the "thing" out of his nose?

It wouldn't be allergies. You are right that the kind of allergies that make us sneeze make dogs itch instead.
My concern would be foxtails. You couldn't see it if there was one in there, and I'm not sure even the vet could see it. But they are very dangerous. Sneezing can be a symptom of a foxtail in the nose.

I think it would be worth having the vet take a look. I hope it's nothing.
I also am concerned that it could be a foxtail. It certainly sounds like something is up in his nostril as opposed to it being an allergic reaction. I think a vet check is in order because if it is a foxtail they just continue to work there way upward and inward and can really do some damage. So, because of that I wouldn't wait to see if it works its way out.
Now you got me really scared. No signs of foxtail but there is a lot of cheatgrass in the area. He is not sneezing constantly and acting normal, but I'm going to call the vet to see what they say.
Oh no! I hope he is ok. Please keep us updated!
Yes, I would be concerned about foxtails or something similar to them. Harpo was doing the same thing, sneezing and scratching at his nose. The vet had to really dig around but came up with a foxtail. She asked if I wanted to keep it as a souvenier (sp?) but I declined. He was pretty happy to be leaving the vets' office that day. If it has worked its way up, you would not be able to see anything.
I made an appointment for tomorrow at noon. Hope it's nothing.
I hope so, too, Jarka, but you'll feel better having the vet confirm that...and so will we!
I'm glad you made the appointment Jarka. Please let us know what they do or do not find! Fingers and paws crossed that it's nothing too!
Keep us updated and ...Hope everyone is safe after the tornados.. Pictures on the evening news were scary looking!
Please keep us updated on Monty! Those Foxtails can be very hard to see once they start moving. Foxtails are very common here in Fresno and I try to watch out for them when we walk Libby! Hope everyone is safe and no tornados!
Yes, he probably does have something in his nose. Gracie Doodle had the tiniest seed off the top of a Mexican Feather Grass plant in her nose. She would do exactly the same thing. I had to take her to the vet, have her put out and they then started the search. The Vet looked everywhere and almost gave up but decided to give it one more try. It found it up in one of her "turbinators" in her nose. He taped it to my bill so I could see it!! ha ha As others say, it could be a foxtail. Do you have them in Colorado and do you have them in your back yard? They are nasty nasty things!!!
