AUSTIN, Texas -- An Austin dog owner is facing felony charges after losing control at a dog park in North Austin.

According to her arrest affidavit, 46-year-old Rebecca Trammell is charged with the second degree felony of aggravated assault.

Austin police say they received a disturbance call from the Canyon Creek Apartments' dog park. They found that a woman, Trammell, had become frustrated with another dog owner who she claims was not cleaning up his dog's feces.

According to the affidavit, Trammell picked up the feces and threw it at the dog's owner. She then picked up a large, jagged rock and threw it at the man's body. The rock missed the man by six inches. Due to the size and close proximity of the rock to the victim, officers said it could have caused serious bodily injury.

It didn't stop there. Police said Trammell also spit in the man's face.

After the incident, Trammell reportedly attacked another person. She admits she became angry because that dog owner did not have his animal on a leash. Police say Trammell grabbed the owner's leash, cutting his hand and seriously injuring him.

Trammell's bond has been set at $7,000. She has requested a Mental Health/Mental Retardation (MHMR) attorney to represent her.

Thursday evening the vast majority of the local dog owners who spoke to KVUE News -- KENS 5's sister station in Austin -- reacting to Trammell’s arrest said they understand her frustration but they also thought she went about things the wrong way.

“I think that that's a little bit too much, a little bit overboard, but I guess I can understand the frustration though," said Daniel Heydenburg, a local dog owner.

KVUE went to Auditorium Shores along Lady Bird Lake to see if the city's Scoop the Poop campaign was having an effect. An overwhelming majority of joggers and dog walkers said it is.

“Most people are self-conscious enough to know what's right and wrong and I think the city has a pretty good message about it," said dog owner Jay Willingham.

Trammell is facing two to 20 years in prison and a possible $10,000 fine.

Do you think she had the Giardia experience?   I might be tempted after having a sick dog

LOL....being in "giardia hell" right now myself I could also be tempted.

More reason to avoid dog parks.

Ha!  So true.  Once, well twice, I threw a tennis ball and a dog park and hit a stranger hard in the back of the head.  Ann Kendig was with me one of the times.

So Glad I was not charged with felony tennis ball recklessness

Must have been a slow news day in Austin. WTD?

I didn't realize that there was such a thing as an MHMR lawyer. Sounds like a good idea in this case.

I lived in Austin for many years before we moved to PA.  It is a very dog-friendly city.  But they did (maybe still do) have a big problem with people picking up after their dogs.  There was one public dog park near us (not the one listed here) where they actually had to close it because so many people didn't pick up after their dogs that the creek in the park had bacteria levels too high to be considered safe from the run-off.  Too bad some people can't act responsibly.  There were times when I considered doing the exact same thing (not the rock throwing part though) but fortunately my common sense kicked in first!

I will also admit, I have wanted to Poop Fling at fast moving cars when I walk. We have no sidewalks.   They drive so fast through neighborhoods. " How dare we take up 5 feet of the road.  Even when I put Spud is a sit/stay ( most times) they still race by.  How rude!

A hot bag of dog poop slammed against the window would feel so good sometimes   :)

But, I would never...... or hope I never

Could it be Dog Park Rage Syndrome? Two to 20 years seems a bit harsh to me, but then, I would be a sympathetic jury member. :)

Ricki, there really IS a Dog Park Rage Symdrome now that you mention it!

She might have gone a bit overboard - should have stopped at the first fling!  I think a small fine would be appropriate.

I have to say that at 6:30 in the morning the title of this discussion is just one that you can't help but read!  I wanted to know if the dog owner was ticketed for not picking  up after his dog!

Ha ha, I thought it said poop FINGER, and I have had that.

She should live next to someone who use to have poop PORCH!

Dog parks, ew!
