Me too, I have never ironed sheets in my life. But my mother did.
Okay, I give up. Life is no easier now than it was in the 50s in terms of labor saving devices, synthetic fabrics, cookware and flooring, stain-free carpets, improved cleaning methods and products, etc. Housework, cleaning, cooking, nothing has changed at all.
I don't remember potato bakers.
I do remember floor wax, though, and how thrilled we all were with that sheet vinyl flooring that didn't need waxing, lol. And having to go over the floors three times every time I washed them, once to vacuum up debris, once to apply the "no-wax" floor cleaner that maintained the shine, and then the final mopping. I know it takes a lot less work to clean floors now, at least.
What kind of floors were these that needed waxing?
I'm not sure. Linoleum and/or vinyl, I guess. Maybe wood floors, too.
Take a look at what was involved in waxing the floor: http://www.wikihow.com/Wax-a-Floor
I used to love ironing. I learned when I was about seven years old on my brother's diapers. Can you imagine that! Yep, we even had ironed diapers. Then I progressed to tea towels and shirts. And, yes, everything was ironed. Now I take out the ironing board a couple of times a year, like today, as I am packing my suitcase for vacation.
Craziness. My mom ironed our diapers too. Why? I can't even imagine why other than perfectionism.
Ha! Can't imagine you not getting a lot of exercise with two kids and two dogs. Just keeping up with two kids and two dogs is more exercise than most people get. Yep, I spend lots on time on my computer also, but seldom watch T.V. That is my husband's domain (with earphones).
The kids run and climb. I just sit and watch them, if I have to. Otherwise I do my own thing (cook, internet, tidy up, laundry, pooper scooping). And the dogs don't need me to run after them, they wrestle on their own. I'm the epitome of sedentary aspirations. If it wasn't for learning about the importance of exercise and good nutrition in college, I'd be a couch potato!
