My 9 month old Labradoodle Breezy has started to howl in response to me leaving or the phone in bedroom. My friends Labradoodle does too. Has anyone had this experience??? Also, I am new and must ask this, what does DH stand for??

Bodi doesn't howl, so I can't help with that.  DH stands for Doodle Husband! :-)  There is a list somewhere on this page of the abbreviations!  Breezy is adorable and I like her name!  Welcome to DK!

"DH" stands for "dear husband" NOT doodle husband, lol.

My Springer Spaniel howls and slobbers on himself when left alone at home.  He is fine when he is left with the doodles, but NOT alone.  He sometimes howls when left WITH the doodles in our RV.  For our Springer, it is caused by anxiety.  I think if we had properly addressed this when he was young, we might have changed the outcome.  We consulted with a STUPID trainer who did not recognize the anxiety and gave us horrible advice.

I had seen the list of abbreviations, but honestly I thought "DH" stood for Doodle Husband, too.  That's why I use "DX" for my Doodle Ex.  I think people seemed to get it.

In any case, Lola LOVES to howl for sirens.  It is so cute:

To me, "Doodle Husband" could have some strange implications, especially when it's a single woman using it, lol.

"Dear Husband" on the other hand, can be used by anyone, whether they have a doodle (or even a dog) or not. Handy for those who are just first exploring the idea of getting a doodle, as in "My DH and I are thinking of getting a doodle puppy."

I refer to my ex as DXH.

Karen, that just made me laugh.  I did not think about it that way, but I suppose you could interpret "doodle husband" is indicating that the doodle was in fact your husband.  That would be weird, though, lol.  Plus context might indicate otherwise.  And, in fairness to my and Doris's interpretation, the office acronym list does say that the "D" can mean many things, depending on your mood.

I guess I think about doodle as being kind of like "smurf".  As with the word smurf, a doodle can refer to an actual doodle - but it can also be used as a substitute for all sorts of other words, to acknowledge the doodleness inherent in all of doodledom.

Oh, and my last poodle howled like that at sirens, and also at the beginning of Rebel Without a Cause, where James Dean is in the Police Station imitating the sirens. Jay, if you can get a good clip of that scene, you might see if Lola responds to it, too.

So far I've never been able to get her to do it for anything but a real siren. I will try Rebel Witgout a Cause though. That is a wonderful movie and I have it on one of my computers somewhere.

That's funny because I used to think it meant "darling husband" until I  saw a few posts where it said "DX" so I figured not very many people refer to ex's as "darling" so it must be "doodle"!!
