Neutering

Hello all -

Curtis our black Labradoodle turned 12 months on June 25th and he's 49 lbs.  He's having his neutering procedure tomorrow morning.  I've been sooo...nervous for days.  Anyone out there please tell me it's ok.  There are no behavioral reasons for having the surgery; we're extremely happy with our little boy. However, I hear that testicular cancer is a big issue when not neutered, and hence, our reason.

We're almost all pretty big fans of neutering here!  So we will be cheering on your decision.  He'll be fine and won't even know anything has changed :-)

Thank you:)...I couldn't live through cancer...it's the thought of taking away something that nature has given him that bothers me I guess.

Most pet dogs can't DO anything with the stuff nature gave them so some look at it as a kindness since they won't be allowed to chase tail anyway--only have strong desires to.

I really think you are making a good decision for Curtis. Most breeders require you neuter your dog and I know both of mine had me sign a contract that I would have that done. Good luck tomorrow.

Men get neutered every day and I don't think they would do it if they thought they were going to be missing out on something. :>) Many of us are missing things that nature gave us but we're just fine. You may not have any concerns with his behavior but there is always the chance of an oops, and the next thing you know you're a Grandma. Curtis really won't care and the recovery is very easy. You are absolutely making the right decision.  We all get nervous with any kind of surgery and that is completely normal.  Curtis is beautiful and he will be the same beautiful boy after tomorrow.

Some vets DO offer doggy vasectomies, but that's not the same as neutering, Nurse Newfie!

No offspring with both, but one retains hormones and visible anatomy ;-)
