Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

This is my first post but for sure not my last. We have a12 week labradoodle that is at 15 lbs currently. She is on Froom puppy now but past few days she is very gassy. Did anyone have any suggestions?

Fromm. Ugh New phone and getting used to it.

Can we have a little history? How long have you had her, what was she eating when you got her, how long has she been on the Fromm's? I'm assuming it's the Fromm Gold puppy formula? Did you switch her cold turkey or did you transition her?

What does she weigh and how much are you feeding her? (Number of feedings per day and amount at each?)

What kind of treats and/or chews is she getting?

We have had her 3 weeks. She was on blue buffalo puppy. She took 2 weeks to transition to fromm. She has been on it 1 week.

Yes.

Transition.

She weighs 15 lbs. She eats twice a day and eats 1 1/2 cup each feeding.

She gets her kibble for her treats currently. It's been a week.

Is that one and a half cups at each feeding? If so, that may be the problem, you're overfeeding her. The Fromm guidelines indicate that a puppy of her age and weight should be getting 2 cups per day, not 3. http://frommfamily.com/products/gold/dog/dry/puppy-gold

Also, a puppy this age is usually fed three times a day, as smaller amounts of food at one time are easier for them to digest than larger amounts. At this point, you can stay with the two feedings a day and give her one cup each meal, or you can try dividing the two cups of food over three meals.

You can also try giving her a tablespoon of plain, unflavored fat-free yogurt with each meal.

Also - if you're using the kibble for treats... maybe 3/4 cups at each meal, then the remaining 1/2 cup for treats?

I'm not a big fan of using kibble for treats, since they are not very "high value" treats when learning new things.  Something like Zuke's minis, soft Wellness treats (Luna likes these, I cut them into tiny pieces) are great for training.

We decreased her feedings to 1 cup per feeding and it seems better.  Her vet had said to increase it because for awhile she was not gaining.

Thanks everyone!

Oh and we got some zukes minis for training.  She loves the peanut butter ones.

Sounds good. Keep us posted on how she's doing.
