Today is shaping up to be the hottest day of the year here in Toronto. I have noticed over the last few months that my Ellie is not drinking enough water. I used to be filling up her bowl 3-4 times a day, and now we barely fill it up once.
Any tips on how to encourage her to drink more water and keep her hydrated especially during these hot summer days?
Thanks!

I might buy this and put a toilet seat on it. I wonder if Vern would think he is drinking out of the toilet :) LOL
LOL, Laurie!
Hahahaha!
My problem with chicken broth is that unless you make your own, which would be fine, all of the canned or packaged chicken broths I've seen contain onions, which are toxic. Even the organic chicken borths have onions in them. The small amount in the broths probably wouldn't hurt, as the effects are cumulative over time, but it would be preferable not to give it to them at all if possible. If you do use commercial chicken broth, be sure to get the low sodium kind.
I just checked the Campbell's one that I use and there are no onions. I buy the no salt added.
This is good to know, Shirley, thanks.
When I feel that Bailey is not drinking enough I put fresh cold water from the refrig door in a different bowl and hold the bowl for her while she drinks some. She thinks it is a treat! I do this when we get back from a walk or after she eats a treat or chews on a bone for a while.
Clever!

Thanks Kimberly!
Luna strangely tends to drink LESS in the Summer... unless she just came back from a walk. She also pees very infrequently (only 2-3 times a day, if you can believe it). She is very submissive and doesn't mark, so that has something to do with it... but when she does pee it's for about 20 seconds!
Judging by her pee colour she is definitely mildly dehydrated, but she still just refuses to pee more than a few times a day.
Maybe I should try some of these water-drinking increase techniques to get her to pee more :p
Thank you for all your wonderful suggestions, cant wait to try them out!
