Oh and some kind of amazing dessert based in chocolate 2-3 times a week. And fruit...left that out.
Another thought. What I'm gathering from spending too much time on this guy's (Peter Attia) blog, is that (according to him) the 'type of fat' is mostly irrelevant if you're not eating carbs at all. And saturated fat is fine and the only one you need to worry about is making sure you get a good essential fat ratio. At least that is what I understand of his philosophy. So Ketosis is his answer...for himself at least.
"Type of fat" is not irrelevant to diabetics. Saturated fat can be the cause of insulin resistance.
I have insulin resistance due to steroids I take... When I am really jacked up on steroids, I gain a lot of weight... For me, what works is more like a South Beach Diet.... I don't eat any white carbs at all... I eat plenty of lean protein which has always kept me filled up....load of veggies, light on the fruit because of the sugar and a small amount of healthy whole grains such as sweet potato or brown rice....
I have lost close to 100 pounds eating this way....several small meals a day..... for me white carbs and carbs in general make me more hungry. Oh and I gained all that weight back and now I am in the process of trying to lose it...
Just my half cent
Wow, F, this REALLY speaks to me. I am diabetic and have been through a lot in the last two years. I was never really overweight but completely lost my appetite two years ago and took off 35 pounds (without trying). It has been a rollercoaster ride for sure and I try to do the right things, but doctors, dietitians, physical therapists, and acupuncture have not yet come up with the solution for me. I have a good diet and plenty of exercise, but still problems with balance and digestive and intestinal problems So, this was enlightening to me this morning. Thanks so much for sharing and for caring about all of us who are struggling with health problems.
