HOW LONG SO I HAVE TO WAIT

HEY EVERYBODY, AS YOU ALL KNOW I DID GET KASH HAIR CUT DOWN FOR THE SUMMER, NOW I'M SO MISSING HIS LONG BLACK HAIR, WILL IT EVER GROW BACK ? IT SEEM TO BE TAKING FOREVER AND NOW ITS CHANGING COLORS TOO. DID YOU ALL HAVETO WAIT LONG AND WHATS UP WITH THE COLOR CHANGE?????    IS THIS WHAT THEY MEAN WHEN THEY SAY COMING INTO ADULT COAT??

Kona was jet black. At some point he began to get silver hairs. He didn't finish changing color until after three years old. He is now a pewter color with brown around his mouth. At first I was disappointed he was turning lighter but now I just love his coat. I hope your sweet Kash ends up with a gorgeous coat. The color has nothing to do with cutting the hair. It has to do with a "fading" gene in poodles.

Hi Bonnie I was looking at some of kona pictures he looks like my kash and kash has that brown coloring around his face also.. Im sure kash will be a handsome adult I cant wait to see it.

I'm not a good photographer. I wish I could capture how gorgeous Kona is. Maybe that's just in a "mother's" eyes, but I love his coloring. You will love Kash's too. ;o)

[Lori, Quincy & Frankie]

At the end of May, Quincy was shaved pretty close on his body and legs due to the dreaded matting when his adult coat started to come in, but his face was left and his tail, pretty long. I had to adjust a bit at first, but then loved his "crushed velvet" look as Adina called it.  I liked that long lean look.  

His coat is now at least an inch and a half and he looks very full and back to being doodly.  It grows fast.  His face needs a trim. 

He was dark chocolate and his back is now streaked with a much lighter color- I am hoping it's that pretty lavendar but still hard to tell.

I loved getting Finnley's "Crushed Velvet" cut for summer. I had it done in May and just made another appointment for her this morning. I'll let it grow back in for winter starting in September, but next May it's bye, bye again !! :) She has red hair on the bottom of her feet. She has always had it, I don't know if it will show up anywhere else, but I guess time will tell !

We had our 'cut velvet creation' two months ago and at this point love it - but the initial shock from all fluff and curls to a naked, leggy, mop top was pretty dramatic.  I did love the full coat look , but the puppy blow was more than I could handle. Now I run a comb over her once every few days and it's all good! Part of me wants to let it grow and grow until it starts to tangle again, but I honestly don't want to have to groom her for an hour a day and will monitor.  She felt so good after her grooming - but she sure was funny looking!  I really missed the thick six inch fleece - now I enjoy seeing her structure and the tight curls are fun to run my fingers through. 

Sometimes those little nicks are truly not the groomers fault - a tight mat and a wiggly dog combined with clippers - well, it happens and it does not mean the groomer is bad.  I prefer to find a groomer who can send me home with a dog not in a state of fret instead of a picture perfect dog - if dog is in good mood I can overlook an uneven cut. 

 

Oh - those brown whiskers are normal 'rust' on a black animal. Saliva or anything acidic can cause the black to turn red or brown,   yogurt snacks really speed it up.   We do have several white hairs now showing here and there amongst the black,  but if she turns purple with yellow spots,  I don't care - her skin is blue, she is black - but I wasn't looking for a beauty contest winner.
