Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

Let me start with Sawyer is the best puppy. He's been home just over a week and has learned so much. He is also very, very mellow. Never cries in his crate, rings the bells for potty, rarely nips at us..he learned not to nip us pretty quickly. Our issue is when we go outside he will eat a pound of dirt and grass. Loves to dig and eat. He is well fed. Blue Buffalo Freedom. The vet thought he was on the heavier side of normal. This puppy is ALWAYS hungry. He is in a constant search for food. I think sometimes I acquired a bloodhound instead of a goldendoodle. He probably has had an easy time with training because he s so food driven. At any rate, the grass/dirt digging and eating is getting to be a bit much. Any ideas? He's done so well with everything, I know he's smart. We've tried distracting him with toys and also subduing him with Cesar Millan technique. That helps for a little while...

Sophie ate everything in sight and loved to dig specially if it was wet out. She was home 3 weeks and this was her favorite thing to do. Took her about 5 mins to dig this one and if you notice there is no pile of dirt next to the hole I wonder where it all went.

Aww...Sophie is adorable! Se did a great job on the hole! Haaa...

I wish I had taken a picture a few days later it was the size of her body and filled with water. The only thing you could see was the top of her head and eyes peeking out.

How cute! I get she needed a bath after that.. You're a better doggie parent than me. I probably would snatch him before he got in a puddle!

Hopefully its just a phase.  Doug was eating dirt and grass and sticks and carpet and his favorite treat...bunny poop!!  I just tell him NO, Yucky!  And keep him away as much as possible, he seems to be less into those things, except the sticks.

Are you giving him kongs with peanut butter?  Our weimeraner would do this and she ended up with horrid gastritis if I didn't keep her on a tight leash!

He doesn't like peanut butter! Isn't that strange? I put treats in his kong and he likes that but figures it out pretty quickly. I've been thinking about freezing yogurt in it and trying that...
Kris, I have the same problem with Finn with the treats and the dirt/mulch/sticks...he eats everything outside and he's just not interested in chewys of any kind. People keep telling me "kongs with peanut butter"...he licks them for about two minutes and then walks away. He doesn't seem interested in anything. The only thing he will chew on for about 20 minutes before he loses interest are bully sticks and I had no idea how bad those things smelled until I bought them. That was $20 that I GLADLY threw in the trash...they were SOO smelly! Finley (as I type) is in the mulch eating it...sigh....lets pray they grow out of this!

Try getting the odorless bully sticks.  They have a tiny bit of odor but are MUCH better than the regular ones!!  I get them at  BestBullySticks.com.  I know what you mean about throwing away the really stinky ones....I have done that too!

Sawyer loves bully sticks too. I deal with smell because he really likes them and satisfies his chewing need. He also LOVES his snuggle puppy. He will play fight with that often. But outside, I think he's just in an endless search for food!
Bunny poop...eeeew! I'm hoping it's a phase too. I'm starting to relax a little more. I was so worried he would get hurt, but he seems to have a stomach of steel. I've never had a puppy before so I'm a bit neurotic!

Funny Jaxon likes to eat the dirt of my house plants!! Now he is trying to bite off the leaves ugggggg what to do???
