Thanks to advice on DK, Ridley is on a diet. I posed the question here about him possibly being overweight and got the feedback that he indeed was. So we are doing Orijen 2 cups per day with green beans (as suggested on here). He's not fond of the green beans, but when he's desperate and realizes we are not giving him anything else. The beans disappear in his bowl. I took him to the vet and they vet confirmed he needs to lose about 5lbs.
Here's my question: I am reading on here that people are rotating b/t types of food (i.e. orijen's fish, adult etc). Would you do this while you are trying to lose weight? I remember Karen asking me what type of orijen Ridley was on to calculate calories. If we switch to the fish orijen to give him variety, will the amount need to be adjusted? I dont' want to make it difficult on him or us. Trying to figure out if the food switch will help him lose the wt (variety will keep him from getting frustrated) or if it will complicate things. Thanks! Kim

Calories are calories, regardless of what kind of food supplies them. Take in more than you require, and you gain weight. Take in less than you require, and you lose weight.
The 6 Fish actually has a few less calories per cup than the Adult formula (23 calories less per cup, to be exact.) So you can switch between the formulas if you want to.
Are you using canned beans, and heating them before serving them? That usually helps.
We were using fresh that had been steamed but we were taking them straight out of the fridge and putting them on his food. He ate around them, leaving the GBs in the bowl. I will try heating them up now and seeing if that makes a difference for him. I will also try the 6 fish next. Thank you!
Warming them does make a BIG difference. But most dogs also seem to like the canned better than the fresh, especially with a little of the juice. Dogs don't have as many taste buds as we do and the canned seem to have more "scent" to them, which helps make them appealing to dogs.
