I agree she does get it all. But I am wondering if the liquids are recommended in larger doses to make up for absorption. I don't know the concentration per teaspoon nor how much liquid a capsule holds. More research necessary : ) It does recommend taking with food and she gets her treat and then gobbles breakfast.
BTW the link takes me right to liquid EPO.

I have just recently found 2 brands that our picky schnauzer will eat and Bear LOVES too :)

Stella & Chewy's Dehydrated

Wild Calling (this is a new one, but has been working with our Savannah's belly)

Has anyone else tried these?  Oh both dogs LOVE the NEW Origen's treats!!!!

Stella & Chewy's is on our list and several members feed it, although for bigger dogs, it's used as a topper due to cost.

Wild calling looks exciting. I had not heard of it before. Apparently they do not have a dry food but are coming out with one soon.

Love the Orijen treats, too.

Hi everyone,

I'm new to this site... Need some help re: food for my pup. Sammy is almost 6 months old. When we got him from the breeder, he was on Blue Buffalo puppy chow. His stools were runny so we progressively switched him to Orijen Puppy. He seemed to be doing alright on it. During the last couple of months he had some issues with Giardia, and was treated. He has no parasites according to the tests, but his stool is inconsistent. It ranges from solid and pick-up-able to completely watery.

Is the Orijen too rich or high in protein for him? I've tried to add pumpkin puree which helps a little, but not tremendously.

Thanks!!

As far as I know there's no such thing as "too rich".  Orijen is a great food, so I doubt it would be that.

Have you tried having him re-tested more recently for parasites?

Yes, just this week actually. The Vet called me on Tuesday to say he was parasite-free. I put another call in to see if the Vet has some insight into the diet, so I'm waiting to hear back. But, from my (limited) experience, the vets at this office aren't that knowledgeable re: food issues...

Could he be allergic to Chicken?? The Blue Buffalo was also chicken-based.

Luna doesn't tolerate chicken very well (I wouldn't say allergic), so your pup could have something similar.  We steer clear of any formulas made mostly with chicken.  Is the Orijen formula chicken-based too?

Yes, it is chicken, turkey, fish, eggs, fruit/veg. The vet told me now that chicken is a common allergen, but he may just be sensitive to it... She recommended lamb or some other red meat.

You are right that vets are not well-versed in nutrition. :) And thanks to J for the "I wouldn't say allergic"- food allergies are actually very rare.

Stick with the food for now and try the probiotics. You can also pick up a bottle of Gentle Digest capsules from Ark Naturals and give one a day as well.

Sammy's problems most likely have nothing to do with the food. The meds he was on for giardia destroyed all of the good bacteria in his gut along with the bad. This is why you MUST use probiotics any time your dog is on antibiotics, metronidazole, etc.

Orijen is NOT too high in protein or too rich. I would not change foods again at this point, you will be clouding the issue. Order Proviable DC probiotics through your vet or on-line, and start him on that. In the meantime, try giving him two tablespoons of lowfat plain unflavored yogurt with every meal. You can also continue the pumpkin. Not sure what pumpkin puree is, use plain canned pumpkin...NOT pie filling.

Make sure you are giving only grain-free treats from our approved treat list, too.
