Has anyone's doodle had to have FHO surgery? My Goldendoodle Dazi is almost 7 months old and has been having trouble. I took her to the vet and the Dr did xrays and she has severe hip dyplasia. She is having FHO surgery on the right hip wednesday. The surgeon says this is the best thing for her instead of a full hip replacement. She is in a lot of pain and I hope this is going to help her. She will have the left side done after she has healed up from the right side. I sick with worry and wondering if anyone else has gone through this and how is the recovery for them. I hate this for my baby. I cant stand to see her in pain.

I already have lots of records from the vet. It started soon as I got Dazi at 8 weeks, she was falling down more than a puppy normally should. Her Dr said she had loose knee caps and thought as she grew they would tighten up. Well they did some but she started having more trouble. Her Dr put on her on rest for a week with no excerise which is very difficult to keep a puppy quiet. After a week she wasnt any better. She has trouble getting herself up from a lying position mostly and limps now. So her Dr sedated her and did the xrays and thats how they found out how bad her hip dysplasia is. The ball of her hip is barely in the socket its supposed to be in. So part of the problem is her knee but the worst is her hips.
Oh, that just breaks my heart Jennifer. She is adorable and the picture of her is precious!
Thanks Karen, Hey, I re-read the condition of sale I got from the breeder. There is nothing in it about getting a refund if something happens with hip dysplasia or anything else that is bad. It only states that she will offer a replacement dog from the next available litter. There is no way I would give up Dazi for a replacement. So I dont think I can fight her for a refund but I do want to do something so just like you said before that this doesnt happen to other babies like Dazi. Do you have any suggestions?
It doesn't sound as if you have a case, if a refund was never part of the health warranty anyway. Hopefully, others will read this who haven't purchased a doodle yet and will look for a breeder who offers a refund rather than a replacement; who would return their doodle puppy for a different one after you've her more than a week???
If it were me, I would post a polite statement in both her FB group, her group here on DK, review sites, and anywhere else she has a presence on-line, simply giving the facts. "I bought a puppy from Name of Breeder's MM-DD-YY John and Mary litter. My puppy is now 7 months old, she has been diagnosed with severe hip dyplasia in both hips, and she requires surgery at a cost of $. Name of Breeder's health guarantee does not offer any refund of purchase price in cases of genetic disease, even when diagnosed before the first birthday. I wanted to make sure that any owners of puppies from that litter as well as any future puppy buyers are aware of this." Or something to that affect.
Agree with Karen. In fact I remember reading that language you describe in my contract and wondering who would accept a replacement puppy from the next litter. I'd have to check but I think I negotiated that if I wanted to keep the puppy the breeder would pay the vet bills up to a certain amount, or something to that effect. That seems more reasonable to me and more likely to incentivize the breeder to do the right thing.
Yes, but....
Jay, I''m thinking fraud. Or looking for fraud. Certainly the contract has issues which may or may not be disputed but to say all dogs have eye and hip " clearance' .. well I would want to see the results.

Could be Joanne.
I am definitely not a litigator, but I know that sometimes there are consumer protection statutes available that allow for punitive damages if you can show a pattern of repeated harm by finding others in the same situation.
Suppose it couldn't hurt to look into.
It just wont stop. It is on every page.
At 'Puppy Mill Doodles' ( name change again) our policy has remained consistent over the years. Our parent dogs all pass health screening prior to breeding. We try to ensure that all parents and grandparents of our dogs have the same certifications.
Thank you. I don't know why this post kept me up last night and it is still bothering me today. I appreciate your professional input
it is really bothering me too.. I want justice... and I want her to stop breeding dogs that have been known to produce dogs with HD... This is GETTING "OLD"
I am sorry I have caused such a problem. I just wanted to see if anyone else had gone through what Dazi is going to go through. I'm sorry it caused you to be up all night and still worried about it. I am going to do all I can to make sure people know about it. I have read and re-read the conditions of sale and I am pretty sure I have no option with the breeder. I will tell you what it says if you would like to hear it. I should have done my homework better but I wouldnt trade Dazi for anything now. I am taking out loans to pay for her surgery. I just want her to get better and out of pain.
Let's just get your girl well. Let me be angry for you for awhile. You just get through the week.
Hug your puppy. We will all be thinking of you

Show me the paperwork. Sorry, I truly would be going to file a complaint, at least, with the BBB and the Attorney General
This surgery is going to at least, to start, be near $10,000
Not including the fact that they have bred these dogs prior and will be breeding them again
