Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

Has anyone's doodle had to have FHO surgery? My Goldendoodle Dazi is almost 7 months old and has been having trouble. I took her to the vet and the Dr did xrays and she has severe hip dyplasia. She is having FHO surgery on the right hip wednesday. The surgeon says this is the best thing for her instead of a full hip replacement. She is in a lot of pain and I hope this is going to help her. She will have the left side done after she has healed up from the right side. I sick with worry and wondering if anyone else has gone through this and how is the recovery for them. I hate this for my baby. I cant stand to see her in pain.

Sorry you guys are going through this.  I hope the surgery goes well.  The most important thing is to get your girl healthy.  Keep us posted on Wednesday.  We'll be thinking about you.

I agree with the others that the breeder should stand by her guarantee, and at least give you the purchase price back.

This breaks my heart. I am so sorry you are going through this.  I would fight hard with the breeder.  And I just want  you to know your sweet Dazi is very lucky to have you - thank you for taking care of her and paying for the surgeries.

Hi Jennifer,

Our Gracie had this surgery a couple years ago.  (She is a F1 Labradoodle.  We got her when our kids were little and before breeding was even a thought.)  Gracie was hit by a car when she was a year old.  It did a lot of damage but our vet fixed her up pretty good. :)   As she aged, her left hip got worse.  By seven years old her quality of life was deteriorating quickly.  We decided to give FHO surgery a try.  I won't lie to you, recovery was not easy and was a pretty long process.  Make sure you use pain meds.  Gracie was a champ and has always been stoic.  Within a few months she was back to "Good ol Gracie" and still has excellent quality of life.  She will always walk a little sideways in the back, but is not in pain and had resumed her normal life.  I am careful she doesn't over do it but she is very capable of a two mile walk, which we do regularly.  Mostly it's running that can make her limp for a bit.  This surgery literally gave us back our Gracie.  I would do it again in a heartbeat.  Best wishes to you and Dazi.  Feel free to contact me if you need help or a shoulder. <3

This is Gracie just the other day.  She was leaning on dad and greeting him when he came home from work. :)

What a beautiful reply, April.

Gracie looks so sweet,  beautiful baby.    Thank you so much for telling me about Gracie.   I hope Dazi surgery goes well.   She is going to have to have both hips done.   I will probably need that shoulder and to talk to someone who has been thought it.  Thank you so much.

I want everyone to know how much I appreciate the kindness and caring you have shown for Dazi and for Me.   I cant tell you how good that makes me feel that I am not alone in this.     This is a wonderful site with wonderful people.    I will keep you updated with Dazi's progress.   Her surgery is scheduled for wednesday and they say she will have to spend the night.  I will pick her up as soon as they let me Thursday morning.     Thanks everyone for your prayers and concerns.   I cant tell you how much that has helped me get ready for this.  Im so worried about her.    She has a great surgeon so I know it should all go well and hopefully soon she will be out of pain and get play and just have fun being a puppy.

Keeping you and Dazi in our thoughts and wishing for a successful surgery and a speedy recovery.

Me too.

Will be thinking of you both on Wednesday - I'm so glad that she has you to look after her while she recuperates!  Keep strong!

Ditto!

Sending positive thoughts for a successful surgery and smooth recovery!  Will be thinking about you guys on Wed.!

Keeping Dazi in my thoughts!
