Is there any advantage or point to registering with the CKC? My breeder included CKC registration papers, and I have no intention to use it, but was just curious what the advantages were in registering a mixed breed dog.
Good Question! I never turned in my doodle's papers either. He's mixed, neutered, and I will never sell him.
So I didnt see the point either in sending in the papers. I also think the same thing about AKC registrations
for full breed "pets" that will not be bred or shown.
Maybe registering the papers can help with determining lineage but will it ever be needed in these cases?
Maybe some breeders can help answer what the benefits are. I am interested to know the answer too.
Hi Jane - I've been out of the purebred, dog showing world for over 10 years, but at that time mixed breeds could not be registered with the Canadian Kennel Club or any other purebred club for that matter. In any case, the only reason to register would be if you wanted to show, do obedience trials, maybe breed the dog in the future. The CKC registrations keeps records of the dogs lineage and is supposed to be a way of ensuring purebred breedings etc.
Just a thought that came to me now - did she give you copies of the registration papers for the parents to have for your information? and not for the purpose of registering your pup?
I think Jane is referring to the Continental Kennel Club -- not the Canadian one. I don't think there's any advantage to registering a pet dog with the continental kennel club.
I received the registration form for the American Canine Hybrid Club - no breeding allowed and may do ability competition down the road - do I need to submit them. I kept it but never submitted it.
AS a breeder and originator of Giant Schnoodles, It helps me keep track of my lineage. If any health problems crop up, I can trace back. For breeding in the future, I can keep my lines outbred. If any of my puppy parents should want to breed in the future I can guide them. I think its a good idea. I keep meaning to get around to it. PUppy love from JOy & furry folk
