Help! How do I keep my puppy calm for 12 days while he heals from neuter surgery?

Vet says if he is to heal well I need to keep him from running and jumping for 10-14 days. He seems to feel fine and wants to play. He's good during most of the day but in the evening he is ready to go! How so you keep a puppy from running and playing?

Honestly, the pain pills helped me keep finley calm; otherwise I don't think I could have kept him quiet. My vet also told me that in reality they don't need that much recovery time. He says they tell everyone two weeks but they really don't need that much time. I think they will only go as fast as they're bodies will let them. You should be ok. If he starts to open his wound from playing you can always crate him but I really do think he will be fine. Finley started playing hard with my other pup after a couple days. Good luck!

Bogey only got 4 pain pills but they did help a little while I had them. My vet told me the problem is not really the incision but the healing inside and he'll have trouble later if things inside don't heal properly. I'm keeping him on a short leash while walking but not sure what to do with all that pent- up puppy energy. Thanks for the reply, time for another CALM walk.

I used lots of chew treats.

walmart has one that is made by nylabone.  it is a hard plastic with empty center and you pop a treat on the inside.  it usually lasts 1-2 hours.  lots of tummy rubbing time. or gentle tug of war.

I devoted 3 days to constant watching of our pup.  He healed well, and by day 5 we were back to normal running and jumping with no pain and the incision was healed.

Honestly it's pretty much impossible!

Luna got the zoomies a few times after her spaying surgery and scared me silly.  Trying to catch her would have just started a game of chase so we just had to wait it out!   Everything was fine though!

She didn't have any pain pills so she was fully alert and wanting to play all the time.  It was hard to ignore her but it was for her own good!

hahahahahahahaha - can't happen.  Seriously, I think you just need to limit his activity as much as you can and don't stress too much about it. Check the incision frequently to make sure it looks good.  Most of the time they heal quickly with no problems.

My guy (Cooper) was nurtured Tuesday, he has figured out how to get out of all three cones that I have in 5 seconds. Zoomies, yes! We were on pain pills and tranqullizers. He wants to play, and when walk time comes around well, LET'S GO! I stopped the meds because they are obviously not working, let's save his liver. I want to know when he can get wet because that will be next whether I like it or not!
