Took Charlie to the Vet to get his rabies shot just now and the Vet mentioned that there was a blue buffalo recall in 2013.  I just switched Charlie from Royal Canin to Blue Buffalo so I'm freaking out a bit.  Only info I can find on the internet is a blue recall back in 2010.  Help! Anyone know anything about it?

I searched the BB site and the last recall was October 2010.  They do not have any other recalls since then and they would definitely have it listed on their site if they did because they are very reputable. Sounds like your vet may have been misinformed or confused it with another brand.

Star, where have you been? We've missed you!

Oh my dear, have I been busy! I got promoted at work which came with A LOT of extra responsibility and Silverlyn has been getting every minute of my extra time. I've pretty much fallen off the face of the earth outside of work and my daughter. Haha. I try to pop in and read a few posts now and then but just can't seem to find the time to really stay connected. Hopefully it will calm down soon. I'm missing me some DK!

Well, at least you're busy for positive reasons! Do stay in touch with us when you can. :)

I didn't think it made sense either.  I just bought the BB bag about two weeks ago from Petsmart and if there was a recall I'm sure they would have taken it off the shelf...and I've been stalking this site every day and hasn't seen anything.  Well that's good to know.  Thanks.  I just want my boy to be health and happy and I'm getting paranoid about every little thing.

I know this seems shocking to many people, but when it comes to food, you really have to ignore your vet's recommendations. There are some specialists and holistic vets who are well-educated on canine nutrition, but the majority of GP vets receive no nutritional education at all in vet school aside from seminars presented by Hills, Purina, and Mars (makers of R.C.) This is not a lot different from human doctors, who are not experts in human nutrition either, outside of their own specialties.

Your vet is mistaken. Not surprising, since most vets know next to nothing about dog food other than what the Hill's, Purina, and Royal Canin salesmen tell them, and of course, they bad-mouth the competition. :)

Charlie was on Royal Canin which was what the breeder was feeding and what my Vet recommended it (and seem to be selling in the clinic), but I didn't like the ingredients and the speciality food store that I go to called it garbage.

The specialty food store is right in saying it's garbage, and food is their business. They make the same profit regardless of what brand you buy, so there is no motive for them to say one food is better than another except to try to help you.

The vet on the other hand, doesn't sell Blue, but does sell R.C., and when a vet sells you food, they make the same profit that a store does when they sell you food. You do the math. :)

That make sense.  I feel much better now. :)

Thanks Karen.

If there was, I had not seen it. Here is a list: http://www.fda.gov/AnimalVeterinary/SafetyHealth/RecallsWithdrawals...
