Yeast is very likely the culprit. Here is a quote from Healthy Pets: " Yeast has a very characteristic odor. Some people think it smells like moldy bread; others liken the odor to cheese popcorn or corn chips. In fact, some people refer to a yeast infection of a dog's paws as 'Frito Feet.' "
thanks for the help. what do you do for an infection?
I'm thinking it could be an ear infection.
thanks so much.
thanks. I'll check.
thanks. i'll check
If your dog's smell is unpleasant and it turns out to be yeast, I recently posted a discussion about doodle BO with great results. At the suggestion of other DK members I diluted 1 cup of vinegar in a gallon of water and poured it over him after shampooing (do not rinse off). His doggie BO disappeared! It worked wonders! Good luck!
thanks so much. i'll give it a try
I find the yeast infection odor very different than the popcorn/frito paw odor. I just told Libby that she smelled like popcorn yesterday! All my dogs had that odor on their paws - and none of them ever had a yeast infection there. Libby used to have a lot of yeast infections in her ears and the odor is much sweeter but not in a good way (thankfully once her diet was modified for her allergies the infections are a thing of the past). But I like the frito feet!
It isn't an infection per se but an overgrowth of yeast on the fur/skin I think.

I agree Robin. Owen did not smell like Fritos. I love the Frito smell on my other doodle. The only reason I suggested the rinse is because she said it was a bad smell. I think popcorn and fritos are good smells so I'm wondering if it is just another way of describing an odor that is unpleasant to Donna.
