I am new to this wonderful site and you have been my daily go to for everything related to my new baby. Thank you for that. My 10week old pup had his DA2PP vaccine yesterday. He slept good last night(830p-630a). When I picked him out of his crate he let out a loud yelp. He seems a little quiet this morning. Not his usual playful self. He continues to yelp no matter how gently I pick him up. Took another nap at 730-9a. Appetite fair but taking treats. No temp. No vomiting or diarrhea. Continues to yelp when I pick him up. Is it normal to have this much discomfort from the vaccine? What else should i watch for? Is there anything I can do to make home feel better? Thank you so much for any advice.

I would put a call I not your Vet, if nothing else, for piece of mind. Great news on the lack of symptoms. And maybe he is just sensitive to pain. But not having the pain just localized at the shot site, is, I think, unusual. So far, we have been extremely lucky. Our puppy has never missed a beat after Vacs. She gets her Rabies on Fri. And hopefully, it will be the same.
Please keep us updated. I'm interested in the outcome

I agree with Rosemary.. call the vet..my vet knows my voice by now ..ufda

Another vote to call the vet. This site is great for advice on training, food and general puppy behavior issues (not to mention commiseration with some of this challenging puppy stuff), but when I see someone post a question that is clearly health related, I always say to myself - CALL THE VET!

This is a great group of people with lots of experience, but nothing substitutes for your vet. I can often get a quick answer over the phone and if they want to see her, then all the more reason to call.

Nobody on this site can know if your puppy is suffering a side effect that needs medical intervention.

Hope I didn't offend anybody....

LOL...hard to offend when you agree! ;)
Thank you all. I was waiting for a call back when I posted. Just have a hard time waiting but the vet called back and advised a dose of Traumeel 1 tab 2x a day( which I have handy). She said as along as he is eating and drinking which he is he should be okay in 24-48 hrs. My pup is such a tough little guy it seemed unlikely that a shot would slow him down. He is resting now. I get a little break from the puppy biting today...hmmm I think I will enjoy that part for the moment. Thanks again!
Just out of curiosity, was this his second dosage, and if it was, what was his reaction first time around. If this was his first, you'll at least, have a heads up next go around. Glad to hear the Vet feels it is nothing too serious. We certainly do worry about our furkids!
This is his second. The first was at 6wks by the breeder. I don't know if he had a reaction. She didn't say. So Bo has been sleeping most of the day. Tenderness is definitely over the injection site. He is moving a little slower and guarded. Vet says that next vaccination she will premedicate him.
Thanks for the further info. Hoping Bo is feeling better soon!
My little 15 week old Sadie just got her last booster she has never had any problems , I would call your vet and ask what they think - good thoughts going your way!
I was going to suggest you call your vet as well but was going to also tell you that Finn had a similar reaction to his second booster. He wouldn't let me pick him up without a yelp for about 24 hours. My vet said that in this second round
Sorry, hit enter too soon. ;0). Apparevtjy, this round has an injection/medicine that really stings. Finn was better on his third round so hopefully this will be a one time thing and he feels better soon!
